Maybe its the fact that the US governments efficiency leaves alot to be desired. Being the richest nations makes it leaders more arrogant with its resources.

Personally, I have never understood why democrats arent the fiscal hawks of the 2 parties. Democrats have more to gain by making every dollar count, as it would leave more to use for other initiatives they may want to start. I'm not sure if its just lack of intelligence or will, but beyond the initial good ideas they propose Democrats seem to be terrible at limiting waste and maximising efficiency.

You should post this topic in a forum that has more black, yellow and brown people. In my experiences many white people are completely lost on how to discuss race relations.

I can say things in a class or in a group of blacks and Hispanics about civil rights and racial perceptions without being called a racist. say it here and boy, the heat comes down.

Three out of four Americans will be overweight or obese by 2020, and disease rates and health care spending will balloon, unless governments, individuals and industry cooperate on a comprehensive strategy to combat the epidemic, the study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="MoonMarvel"]Gays are not really banned, just not allowed to serve openly. It maybe better this way, who knows how other service men would act if they knew. Also this was NOT a standalone bill, the other stuff may have affected the outcome. This needs to be a standalone bill.MoonMarvel
Exactly...hiding other legislation to sneak through can block said legislation. And while I have no problem with removing DADT and allowing gay people to serve openly.....I don't think the sneaky back door attempt to legalize some illegal immigrants should ever pass.....

I have no problem with gays serving and doing so openly, I worry more about homophobia in the miltary. I also find it funny that the Dems try to pass the dream act so close to an election month.....Hmmm.....Trying to salvage some seats are we?

So the Dems possibly wanted to create 'a damned if you and damned' if you dont scenario. Republicans voting for the bill would have enraged people because of the amnesty and voting against because of DADT.

The news headlines will mainly be covering the DADT part and how republicans blocked it and thus helping the Democrats

Smart

This certainly didn't help....

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2010/09/senate-also-blocks-action-on-dream-act-for-illegal-immigrants/1

In failing to advance the Pentagon spending bill and the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," the Senate also blocked action on theDREAM Act, which offers a path to legal status for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children.

Both measures were attached to the $726 billion military spending bill. A vote to end a Republican-led filibuster failed, 56-43.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Obama would continue to press for passage of both measures, our colleagues at The Oval report.

That's good advice and all but a bad approach for U.S to take. Imagine if massive crime problems were to be solved or poverty were to be eliminated, unemployment rate would skyrock tremendously. nchan

And higher unemployment would make people even more vocal about illegal immigration to the point civil unrest may occur.

Interesting logic there... I like it!

What's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell'?

SkyWard20

US military policy of not asking or talking about if one is gay or not.

I wonder if the bill would have been successful it were standalone and not connected to anything else?

How long before another attempt to repeal DADT?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_gays_military

Democrats fell short of the 60 votes needed to advance the legislation, which authorized $726 billion in defense spending. The vote was 56-43

PS. The US spends way too much on the military....

A good interview with Ahmadinejad. He comes off as quite reasonable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duGXrjm7L2E

He said that the US should spend more of its energy and focus on the millions of Americans living in poverty, its massive crime problem and racism.

Good advice.
