It also didnt help that since i have my pc monitor and my HD Tv on the same desk (it fits rather well) i'm probably sitting too close to it than what most people are used to for TV's so that probably makes things look more rough than they would for the average user.

While i'm here, i'll also note that when i had my xbox 360 running through my Samsung 22" monitor with a VGA AV HD Cable it sorta had the same sorta deal going on with it except i thought at the time that it was just because maybe since the optimal resolution for my monitor was 1600x1200 that it running at the closest resolution 1300 something by 700 something that it was yet again just an optimal resolution problem.

i just bought a 26" samsung lcd hd tv today, i have my ps3 hooked up to it via hdmi and i have my ps3 set to 1080i.

But when i go to play games on it it looks like its running at a highly unoptimal resolution where the edges of everything look blurry and the amount of jaggies are really quite disapointing.

Its akin to when your playing a pc game on a big monitor at a crappy resolution and the picture doesnt look very sharp as a result. (best analogy i can come up with since i used to be a pc only gamer) maybe i'm expecting this to look as crisp as my pc games would run with a good video card at optimal resolutions or expected too much out of hd or there is a massive difference in graphics between LCD and plasma that i'm overlooking.

As i'm sure all of you are aware of, the ps3 is a dust magnet and cause of the shiny finish on it is pretty easy to scratch if you dont use the right cloth.

What do you guys/gal's use to clean your ps3's effectively without scratching the hell out of the console surface?

thx :P

Fair enough, cause i thought it was weird that even tho my discs were getting scratched it wasnt as bad by far as some rentals i'd played and had no troubles with. That makes sense then. Oh well... Looks like i'm calling microsoft tomorrow. Sucks cause it will probably take weeks to get a replacement i would imagine so il'l miss out on the halo 3 release *cry*

Alrighty, maybe the reason why i havent noticed it doing this to my 360 discs is because i havent played a 360 game on it since i started playing shenmue 2 2 weeks ago, not because the disc scratching back then prompted me not to, i just hadnt happened to have played any for any notable period of time during those 2 weeks, where as i was at times playing shenmue 2 all day long. So maybe if given the chance it would scratch my 360 discs too, i just havent let it yet by playing any 360 games for any length of time. I had never thought of that.

People who know me knowi'm rather protective and paranoid about the condition i keep my games and stuff in and often even after months of owning a game its still pretty much scratchless if not completely to the naked eye. My 360 is doing something extremely confusing that you might guess based on what i've seen you post before, but it isnt quite it. And this is so bizzare that you will probably think i'm making this up or am jumping at shadows (so to speak). I own 2 original xbox games that i play on my 360,

Shenmue 2 and Soul Calibur 2. About a third of the way through Shenmue 2 a message came up on the screen saying it couldnt read the disc, that it was dirty or scratched and to press A to continue, which meant in the case of shenmue 2 going back to the dashboard. So promptly after seeing this, i ejected my game from my 360 and looked at the bottom of it. When i held it up to the light i noticed some fine scratches circling around the disc kinda like the lines in a tree trunk. Mind you though, i've rented games that have been many times worse than this and have still worked fine in the past. Infact these scratches i'm talking about cant even be seen unless you hold them up to the light, so they are indeed fine ones. This read error came up about 3 times during the course of this game which took me around 30 hours to beat i'd say. Which isnt that bad i guess, and places that it happened at before would work fine after i reset. Now, shenmue 2 wasnt in its shrink wrap even tho i bought it new from Eb games because they keep thier cd's in plastic slips in a filed out draw (not the most best way of storing anything really but whatever).

Anyway soul calibur 2 had a read error today, i checked the disc to find the same result as shenmue 2. And this game was in its shrink wrap and everything when i bought it and flawless condition when i opened it and looked at the cd (of course it should be anyway it was sealed) Now heres where it gets really fkin weird. So i decided to look at my 360 games to see if they had the same scratches on them. I'd never experienced read errors with 360 games before ever.... So i decided to look at the games i'd played most. Gears of war = perfect, Bioshock = Perfect. Isnt that teh most bizzare thing youve heard?, it almost seems as if my 360 is scratching my xbox discs but not my 360 ones. How the hell does that work. This is quite simply the most confusing thing i've ever had happen to me to the point that i almost feel like a fool posting about it. And i bet if i phoned microsoft about it they would probably laugh in my face. I dont move my console when its switched on or at all for that matter, its stayed int he same horizontal position on my computer desk since i first bought it.

Any thoughts?

yeah i realise that but even when you have that turned on it wont auto boot a UMD after the first time it does it if you press the home button and use the XMB then switch it off while its on that screen. It will boot next time to what you were doing last. It only did that after the failed firmware attempt. Doesnt matter anymore its working now.. The update software just isnt programmed to take into account AC Adapters so you must have a charged battery to do it regardless.
