i wonder if all of these people are giving RDR all these high scores just because it's from Rockstar and that it plays like GTA, only set in the Western era?

Well Rockstar games are known for it's quality, and RDR is apparent right from the start. And while it is like GTA in certain aspects, refinement and a different sandbox design is enough to make it a whole different beast. The design is just more spontaneous and organic.
