You really should change the video card to the Sapphire HD4850 as it's much faster than the HD3870, and it's only 20$ more after MIR. The Corsair 450VX 450W power supply is enough for your system if you want to stay on budget.

You might have to update your motherboard's bios.

Get a Corsair 550W or 650W, they're excellent power supplies.

I wouldn't take the risk, it could end up frying your new card and other components.

Codegen 480W, I only see 1 +12v rail at 16A and looking at the price of 16$, no it's not enough to run a 4870.

Should be fine, the card can't consume more than 225w. What's the brand ?

You should go to a pc hardware store in your city and buy a good brand power supply like Corsair, Enermax, PC Power & Cooling or Seasonic. The one at futureshop is overpriced and not a reliable brand.

[QUOTE="ShimmerMan"]so you have a Acer desktop. Nope you need a upgrade. Depending on which card you choose you'll need at least 500w psu with decent 12v amps and a PCI-e connector.stillmatic-

Will this do?

I thought you were tight on money. This is better and cheaper.

I think he has a custom built PC with a aspire chasis http://www.eurowide-pc.co.uk/aspire-xdiscoveryal-silver-case-p-116.html I actually thought acer aspire was laptop only. but I see they do desktops too.

ShimmerMan

- Up to 4 x case fans:
- 2 x 80mm fan - front (optional)
- 1 x 80mm UV blue LED fan - side panel (included)
- 1 x 120mm crystal fan - rear (included)

That's good enough airflow, so he shouldn't have a problem with a single-slot video card like the hd4850. That's the card I recommend too. Best price/performance card.

Where are you buying these parts from ?

Are you planning for an SLI or Crossfire setup, or just a single video card ?

I didn't see a case there.

You're keeping your current monitor right ? What resolution will you be gaming at ?
