Here's the fix for controlling the fan speed. I'm sure Rivatuner or Ati Tray Tools will support the HD48xx series soon.

I suggest you try that fix before buying an aftermarket cooler, because the stock cooler pushes the hot air outside of the case, and aftermarket coolers don't.

But if you're not satisfied with the temperature, Hardware Canucks tried a few coolers on the HD4870 with great results.

hah set up is easy and can be done in a couple hours?westvufootball

Yes it's very easy. Here's a guide that will help you. It's a little old but still useful.

And don't forget to have zip ties to tie the cables inside your case for better airflow.

So to set the record strait the HD4850 is not the competitor to the 88ooGT/GTS, the competitor is the 9800GTX+!

swehunt

A better competitor to the HD4850 would be a 9800GTX++. ;)

Yes.

A big difference.

So you don't NEED more performance anyway. Wait for a game that'll push the graphics barrier.

Speak for yourself. I answered his question, you didn't.

Wrong. The 9800GTX beats the HD4850 in some games and vice versa.

nVidiaGaMer

Wrong. The HD4850 beats an overclocked 9800GTX.

so does my mobo only have 8x?

again this is my mobo GA-EP35-DS3R PCI-E x16 (dosent the 16x mean i have 16x like those benchmarks above?)

costyssj4

Your mobo has pci-e x16, don't worry. There's no bottleneck, IF there is (big IF) you lose 2-3 fps at the most. Nothing to lose sleep over. And pci-e 1.0 or 1.1 != x8

Nice find.

Seeing as many people are worried about the cards temp, this thread should be stickied.
