Do i need a router to connect, i just need some help.111vif you are leaving the modem on when switching cable it wont work because it saves the ip number for the originaly connected device untill shut down of the modem u must restart your modem by pulling the power and plugging back in the power

I know all of my router information, I just think that some part of my setup might be wrong. These are the values i am entering.U cant have an Ip of 102.x.x.x on your network because u require the first 3 numbers in your ip to be 192.168.1.X
IP - 102.168.1.60 (the ip i'm trying to assign my PS2)
mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Router - 192.168.1.1
DNS 1- 67.69.184.199
DNS 2- 67.69.184.23
On my linksys router i have DMZ'd the IP 102.168.1.60 so my PS2, were it able to connect, should not have any closed ports. I'm stumped as to why this configuration is not working.macabre_one

so basically plugging in the internet cord into the back slot of my slim ps2 wont do anything!?? thats great. so i have to purchase a cross over cord?? the hell is that? i'm not familiar with all this technician stuff so can u explain where i can but this ( chord) how it looks etc... man all this just to play online?? pssss seems not worth all this headache but i'm willing to try so can u help out!killab_venomYou can plug the ethernet from your internet directly into your ps2 but if you are using your computer to get your ps2 online by connecting then you will need a crossover.
im going to take a sceen shot of your message so i dont have to explain it over and over which will happen on the ps3 threadDude, here is the answer for all Gaming systems for routing connections with out buying expensive gaming routers. The solution is basically buy a cross over cable! and the step by step instructions. Your setting up a imaginary router which is your computer or laptop.
1. u Need a cross over cable. Cat 5 won't work at all. if using cat 5 it will show network cable unplugged. Plug the crossover into the wired network card and ps2 slim or xbox.
2. Bridge connections. Start off by highlighting both a wired network card and wireless network card or usb wireless adapter. then right click and say bridge connections.
3. Once Bridged connections, goto command prompt and ----->type in---> netsh bridge show adapter(this shows the 1 and 2 networks. now type in netsh bridge set adapter # e, make sure both connections are enabled. e= enabled d=disabled. After both 1 and 2 are enabled, type netsh bridge show adapter (to see if they are both enabled) this is force compatibility. if they are close out command prompt
4. make sure the bottom right hand corner of desktop menu bar show a network connection not an X by LAN. ***basically your LAN and wireless networks should be bridge by now showing no X.
5. Turn on ps2 slim or xbox. configuration with sony cd and use the LAN automatic. This will set up itself.
6. If this doesn't work then I don't know, either your network cards don't support promiscous mode, or you need to troubleshoot(check google for advice) but this is what I know. and please don't go into your network configurations of the network cards unless you know what you are doing with the TCP/IP stuff. If you get crazy and do, and screw up your computer, do the accessories/systemtools/systemrestore option to goback to original settings from a few days ago. Please don't get crazy cause bridging connections could mess up. use your head.
7. Sorry if hard to understand im not from this planet. thanks funkacpu!!!
