@nini200:

In the 3DS LoZ ports of Wind Waker HD, when you use first person aiming you control it either with a combination of the thumbstick/circle pad and the motion feature or each individually. I'm pretty sure Splatoon works in a similar way, or at least that's the impression I got from the Direct.

Your idea could work, although then people without Wiimotes would have to buy them to keep up.

They confirmed partial motion in the Direct, like Wind Waker HD and the 3DS LoZ remakes.

As far as Wii controls go, you wouldn't be able to use the Gamepad map jumping feature.

I agree that it should have been in the game from the start, but that's just my perspective as a player. I wasn't saying they're doing it to ease people in, I was saying they're doing it to maintain interest, so rather than burning out on it over a week or two and going off to play something else until a big DLC pack, people will keep coming back regularly to check out the new modes, maps, weapons and gear.

I'd rather have everything up front, but I understand Nintendo's desire maintain interest.

Mario Kart had more in terms of tracks vs maps but Splatoon's content has more mileage with all the different load outs, upgrades, the map rotation, single player and the arcade games, plus Splatoon will be getting extra content far quicker. Compared to Mario Kart where you can do everything in an afternoon except unlock all the kart pieces, which don't have as much of an impact on gameplay as Splatoon weapons and gear..

I'm pretty sure Mario Kart's DLC was paid because the base game already had as much content as any Mario Kart, possibly slightly more.

On multiplayer focused games, DLC and updates have always renewed interested among lapsed players, in Nintendo's case Mario Kart almost had a second and third launch with the new track packs and 200cc.

What I mean is, if they ship it light on content they can keep adding stuff so people don't burn out on it in a few months, so then new Wii U owners can still get it down the road and it won't be dead online.

I don't like it, but I see no other reason since we saw the game at least years E3, which was almost a year ago and the product doesn't look much different now.

The game either isn't finished or they're trying to maintain interest throughout it's life.

Looks like a lot of fun.

Can't say I'm happy about how much of it they're finishing post launch though, at least the updates are free.

Nintendo have been licensing their video game IPs for almost as long as they've been making video games.

I've only played Star Ocean 4, the dub is legendarily bad, the characters don't translate well in English and the gameplay is nothing special.

It wouldn't be near the top of my recommendation list but you could do worse than the PS3 version (the 360 version is terrible due to dub only).

The biggest concern with the new game is that the developer is owned by a mobile game company now, but I'm still optimistic because I love space themed games.
