You should probably repair windows when you install something like a new motherboard and don't want to have to back up all your stuff and reinstall windows again. You will have to reinstall all your drivers though but that's not really a big problem.

Memory won't be a problem. Heres the deal. The x2 4000+ is a fine CPU, although a bit dated. The weird thing about crysis is that, even though it seems very GPU bound, it for some reason also scales with CPU speed. There is a benchmark on anandtech I found interesting in which they used a core 2 duo processor at different speeds. Surprisingly, even though they had ultras in SLI, it actually varied from like 30-40 FPS depending on the speed.

So the x2 4000+ may hold you back some, but it will overall be fine, and that OC should help. I'd say that you should be fine playing on high settings, with a few settings on very high depending on your resolution.

When you say memory isn't a problem you mean with 2gigs right? Cause i know for a fact 1gig just isn't enough. I think i read the article your talking about, it is surprising how much of a performance boast you can get from the higher cpu clock speed.

How much would the x2 4000 CPU hold my PC back from playing crysis? I have an 8800GT and atm i only have 1 gig of ram but in the next few days i will be getting another gig. Iv OCed my CPU to 2.3ghz, I'm expecting to play crysis on high with the 2gigs of ram but iv herd people saying they play it fine on very high. If i was to play the game on very high will my CPU be enough, and is 2gigs alright?

There will never be a console game that looks as good as crysis. Anyone who says games like Uncharted/killzone 2 look even nearly as good must never have played crysis on very high settings......or high for that matter.

Just because your CPU is almost at full usage doesn't mean its the reason for the framerate drops. I'm not sure about quad cores but most CPUs will be running at around 90% usage in games.
