Because of all the parents going to Wal-Mart and seeing the $250 price tag versus the $500 one and the $400 one, also noting all of the Mario games with that cheap console and are sold. They all buy their precious little 5-9 year olds a Wii.

Seriously, i do not know one person over the age of 17 (who has a job and buys their possessions independently) who own a Wii over a PS3 or 360. I just dont...

So Nintendo better thank all the Mommies out there buying theirkids a friendly, family console.

I'm 26 and got a Wii at launch. It's my preferred system as well. Why don't you imagine your own reality to yourself because nobody of intelligence is going to buy into that crap. Sure some parents buy it for their kids but some buy it for themselves. Just because your "groupies" aren't in with the trends doesn't mean that they are the end all be all of the market.

its safe to say that the older crowed are supportive of the nintendo wii, while the younger crowd (grew up on ps1-ps2 era) just clearly dislike the wii and what it does. i can finally say this, from what i been seeing. the children just hate nintendo.

See, now this actually makes a little more sense. People love where they came from and cherish their past. If you grew up on Nintendo in the 80s then you might be a little more fond of seeing that time revived. Which happens to be a lot of the older crowd. Old people also don't like to NOT play games, but they also don't like to be showed up by little kids so they stay away from it. Give them games that they can understand and they will be more open to it. The Wii is doing that very well.

But people who grew up on Sony don't want to see Sony decline either and they see Wii as a threat and therefore criticize it without any direct reason to.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]Do you work for Nintendo? Why do you care so much about a faceless corporation that cares nothing about you? I have a Wii, and I enjoy it. However, I could care less how much money they make or don't make. Nintendo is no different than the airline I choose to fly, the company that makes my car, or the company that makes my preffered soft drink. They are just a faceless corporation like all the rest.JayPee89
That is why they are called fanboys.

The more they sell the more games they get and the better chances I have of feeling like I am IN a game with the motion controls. Does that make me a fanboy of a company? Or does that make me a fan of games who would like to one day become fully immersed in an environment instead of looking at pretty visuals. Some of you people are completely ignorant and void of seeing potential in anything beyond your own pethetic existances.

[QUOTE="mmnin"]well there is actually stock on it. Wii is the 2nd console and it keeps going out of stock. Amazon must have a surplus of PS3's laying around with the vender they work with for it. Thats the whole reason Sony dropped the Ps3's price because there were too many on the shelves.HarlockJC

I am glad to see they droped the price, but I want to just see another $100 drop in price.

yeah Sony needs a $399 console out there. They could have with the 20GB model, but for some reason they like this 499 -599 range.

at least this isn't like the N64 game drought after launch. AcousticDoc

I think we have all seen worse. I remember the last years of N64's life too. Horridly boring with only Conker and Paper Mario to enjoy.

i dont have one and i tell you i would love one..CDWJUSTIN

We will all accept Wii in a couple of years, even those that say they will never buy one. Heck, most of us may even own one by then, but it will become more clear how useful and essential the Wii's inputs will be for future generations of gaming.

[QUOTE="azad_champ"]Yay! Who needs MGS4 and Halo3 when we got Wii Fit Wii Sports?! These sales are killing the hardcore industry!People are buying into a gimmick. sad but true.azad_champ

MGS 4 and Halo 3 have their place. But apparently so do games like Wiisports Wiiplay and Wii Fit or they wouldn't sell in the millions and having a "gimmick" rocket console sales to twice Xbox sales and 4 to 8 times PS3 sales on a weekly basis. They are leading the way in innovative gameplay while Halo 3, Uncharted, and MGS 4 are leading the way in more realistic visuals. We need them both but in order for more realistic control schemes to be successful, Wii NEEDS to succeed. You should all be thankful that mainstream likes it! Now when next Gen rolls around we will have both even MORE interactive controls AND MORE impressive visuals TOGETHER! and this will be the next step for total immersion in a game. Isn't that what many of you would like to have???? GEEZ!

I agree that balance is good. Just look at the PS2. But what differs Wii and PS2 is that Wii has almost became entirely casual. So what happens in 5 years when cheap games like Wii Love or something outsells games like future Halo and Final Fantasy games? Then more and more developers would abandon the hardcore wagon and jump on the cheap and causal market. leaving us hardcore gamers a little library to choose from.

Statistics show that hardcore gamers buy more games and put more money out there than casual gamers generally. I don't think developers will forget the hardcore crowd. But they were caught off guard with Wii's success and with Wii being so different than the other two, it will be a little while longer before games that are catering to the hardcore crowd come to Wii, but they will. We need HD to survive though despite so that developers will have a graphic vision as well as a newly found creativity with input. Wii 2 will be HD, thats a given and these developers will have already had experience with it. Hardcore isn't forgotten about it is just in different places and spread thin, and for Wii, put on a temporary wait.

I want big games just like every other gamer. I'm thankful Paper Mario was put on the VC this week. It's much better developed than the current Paper Marios, but one day Wii will have some decent hardcore 3rd party support, but not till the current hardcore games are released like RE5 MGS4 Assasin's Creed, etc... so that those teams can start working on some Wii titles more consistantly. Hardcore games will never go away. We gamers are the heart of this industry and that will never change. Game development just comes with about a year delay after things shift. This is a calm before the storm.

[QUOTE="mmnin"][QUOTE="Ontain"]

[QUOTE="pins_basic"]It's the fastest selling do to the fact that the PS2 was released in Japan for months before releasing everywhere else. In the US the PS2 was selling at a faster rate than the Wii is currently selling at and it was $299. It's the same reason Sony claims that the PS3 is selling faster than the PS2. I'm not sure about Japan but I know the PS2 would sell 90k a week over there.Ontain

true but to get the closest picture we should realize that by the time the ps2 came out in the US there was more supply. the wii is trying to supply the world at launch which will usually end up in some regions being more constrained than others. if we add the japanese and the US launches for 7 months for the ps2 and wii i believe the wii is selling more.

If you look at the chart link in one of my prior posts, it shows the combined worldwide sells compared at launch for Wii, Ps2, and Ps3 from VGChartz. They are pretty accurate, but even if they are off by small fractions you can still see a clear result.

Chart

take a look at just the US launch aligned. here we see that the wii has out paced the ps2 by a little.

now look at the Japan launch aligned. we see that the ps2 was ahead a little. but now it's about the same.

looks like wii is the closest to being like the ps2.

Wow. interesting. I hadn't broken it down into that before surprisingly. It does seem that way when looking at the territories separately.
