[QUOTE="pins_basic"]It's the fastest selling do to the fact that the PS2 was released in Japan for months before releasing everywhere else. In the US the PS2 was selling at a faster rate than the Wii is currently selling at and it was $299. It's the same reason Sony claims that the PS3 is selling faster than the PS2. I'm not sure about Japan but I know the PS2 would sell 90k a week over there.Ontain

true but to get the closest picture we should realize that by the time the ps2 came out in the US there was more supply. the wii is trying to supply the world at launch which will usually end up in some regions being more constrained than others. if we add the japanese and the US launches for 7 months for the ps2 and wii i believe the wii is selling more.

If you look at the chart link in one of my prior posts, it shows the combined worldwide sells compared at launch for Wii, Ps2, and Ps3 from VGChartz. They are pretty accurate, but even if they are off by small fractions you can still see a clear result.

Chart

They even have weekly sales data as well from PS2 to compare.

[QUOTE="snorlaxmaster"]The only reason that the Wii is getting "exclusives" is because the system isn't powerful enough to handle multiplatform games, so they create bad gimmicky ones instead....:|Ontain

Games encourage sales which encourage games, but in Wii's case:

Sales encourage quickly developed games which encourage sales which encourage better games and more support which encourage sales which encourage massive amounts of games and awesome exclusives which encourage happy gamers! WOOO!! All driven by the novelty of the motion controls, mainstream media, and cultural trends.

Unfortunately it won't fully get to happy gamers until next fall for 3rd party software at the earliest. But we at least have Nintendo pushing the envelope until then. Somebody has to watch their back till 3rd parties come around, it might as well be Nintendo themselves. I predict that come spring 2009, it will have dawned on everyone that everything is good in Nintendo's hood.:P

I think that this is pretty similar to the first ps1.

That would make sense, seeing as how the Playstation brand wasn't developed yet and the industry was unsure of it when it first released, much like how they felt about Nintendo until the Wii started to sell despite concerns. We know that Playstation opened up the market and that lead to developers giving the Playstation brand their main concentration. I expect that a similar effect could happen with the Wii. I don't think Nintendo is as hard to work with and stifling as they were back in the N64 era so the potential is definitely there.

PS: it could take an entire generation though for some of these other developers to suck up their pride and develop good titles for Wii like Epic Games and Silicon Knights for example. i would even have expected Factor 5 and Capcom to also give Wii a majority shaft, but I think RE4 is waking Capcom up a bit and we have heard rumors on Factor 5. Rockstar jumping on Wii's bandwagon was a big sign that things are changing because apparently they like to ride ontop of market shifts.

[QUOTE="mmnin"][QUOTE="Dencore"]

Jedigemni why the hell do you keep making these biased threads?

Seriously you have 3 of your "Anti-Wii Doubt" threads in the first damn page of this board. I think people have either gotten the point already or like most just generally don't give a damn.

Dencore

Probably because this board is called "system wars" and last I checked the only thing you guys argue is 360 vs PS3. Wii is where the market is headed according to sales. It is only a matter of time. Wake up and smell the trends. This is a huge shift in the industry and its right under your nose. Do you really want to be the ones who were blind and stupid during all of this? I think Wii needs some representation on this board, because it IS a system and it IS kicking the other systems butts. Why wouldn't it have some threads like this? It makes more since then the stupid PS3 and 360 threads you guys make! dang you people are hypocrits.

I don't know whether to cry while reading that post or laugh my butt off.

First of all I own a Wii as a secondary *DS as a primary*, and have a STRONG dislike for both the PS3 and 360, but not by brand *I own a PS2 and PSP* but what they stand for. I never said that the Wii isn't going to suceed or win the market, nor did I say there isn't a huge shift amongst the industry as of every week it seems that the Wii has moved a step up in third party seriousness.

We went to down right broken games like Far Cry.

Then to last gen downgraded ports like Prince of Persia

Then to improved ports of good last gen games like Godfather

Then we got decent to good spin-offs like Dragon Quest Swords and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Then we got good grownd up sequels to cult ports like Trauma Center: New Blood

Then we got good ground up games for the stream gamers like Nitrobike

Now just today we got a good ground up game for the gamers Tales of Symphonia 2.

The we support is improving and has come a LONG way speaking as someone who has been carefully watching it all this time. And due to sales of it it will only go forward.

I'm not complaining about the Wii's success, but the fact that he trys to claim ownage in every single thread he makes which is a constant annoyance.

Well he may be a little ridiculous by consistantly doing this, but I do think Wii needs to be brought up more than it has been. As for those games, they can be worrisome but you have to keep in mind that Wii has ONLY been out for less than a year, developers thought Nintendo was out of the game and ignored the Wii and now they have to throw stuff together to make games for it. In this situation it would outlandish to think anything released in the first year that wasn't Nintendo would be any good UNLESS it was a port of a successful game. (from last gen given Wii's current graphic levels)

Wii's game mixture will change next year though, you can count on it. Thankfully consumers don't seem to care about the crappy games right now and the interest is going to keep going, regardless of the crap games, till we DO get good games. THAT shows just how much potential Wii has and where it can go in the future, which consequently is a point made by the TC though in short form. Sales are going to go UP not down once better games come out. Wii Fit is just going to ensure that sales keep going until developers fully wisen up to the current situation. In short, I'm going to say what Sony fans are saying right now, "just wait."

*to post below: Yes you are right. i did. Sorry for that. I was in my "defense mode" I think as I was expecting lots of backlash seeing what this board has consisted of. I might need calm down a bit. i don't usually post like this until I get passionate.

[QUOTE="KirbyFan10101"]The Wii won't be the next PS2, because it won't have the exlcusive third party support the PS2 had over its competition.Ontain
would there have been as many exclusives if the ps2 didn't have most of the marketshare?

Another intelligent take. Ok, I'm done ranting, but for freakin sakes people, stop being stupid.

It's bound to slow down eventually.

But I'm very surprised it hasn't yet

BuryMe

See??? Look at this post! Why can't we have more posts like this! It isn't destructive, it can stir positive conversation and it isn't blind, ignorant, and in denial yet he still expresses his opinion and feelings about it. Now granted he does present a statement factually that cannot be proven and seems unlikely according to sales data and current momentum and trends, but still he at least sees that something is going on! That's at least a start!

Yay! Who needs MGS4 and Halo3 when we got Wii Fit Wii Sports?! These sales are killing the hardcore industry!People are buying into a gimmick. sad but true.azad_champ

MGS 4 and Halo 3 have their place. But apparently so do games like Wiisports Wiiplay and Wii Fit or they wouldn't sell in the millions and having a "gimmick" rocket console sales to twice Xbox sales and 4 to 8 times PS3 sales on a weekly basis. They are leading the way in innovative gameplay while Halo 3, Uncharted, and MGS 4 are leading the way in more realistic visuals. We need them both but in order for more realistic control schemes to be successful, Wii NEEDS to succeed. You should all be thankful that mainstream likes it! Now when next Gen rolls around we will have both even MORE interactive controls AND MORE impressive visuals TOGETHER! and this will be the next step for total immersion in a game. Isn't that what many of you would like to have???? GEEZ!

he's right.

You people calling him a sheep are simply stupid and hypocritical. It's finally Nintendo's time to shine again and you all are calling them sheep. As if it was any better when PS2 ruled. Wii is set to sell MORE than PS2, not be the next PS2. It is carving its own path.

Chart

If anything PS3 might be set to be the next PS2, but Wii is in a league all its own and you guys don't want to see it.

If you all were Nintendo fans you would happy right now, sucks that you aren't and don't care about more interactive experiences and are happy just sitting on a couch developing callouses from all the unnatural button mashing that you insist on still doing, but whatever makes you feel better about your existance I guess.
