Hybrid SLI is when you use an onboard videocard along with an add-on videocard for SLI. It's used basically in the same way SLI is, except when the extra videocard isn't needed, it goes into a low power state, saving power. Or it's supposed to...
It's probably considered low end because it's an old and discontinued model. As far as 3d/futuremark goes, I'd assume that the majority of the people using it have some pretty beasty set ups, so higher end machines are considered "common."
I couldn't find any reviews which showed the Phenom II 550 along with and E8400. I'm not so sure that the E8400 is "obviously" faster. I'd say they're similar in performance. The 550 did show to be good with overclocking also.
I've leaned toward AMD ever since I started building computers. They tend to not rape their customers pockets. They also keep their game clean, or at least I think. Intel was fined by the European Union for giving rebates to system builders for exclusively building Intel systems. Why play dirty when you're already on top? That's the way competition goes I guess. Maybe AMD has done some dirt too, I just haven't heard of it.
