@deth420: The majority of Russians seem to be against this. A justification just can't be found, no matter how hard one tries. Even Putin's own security council were basically pressured into agreeing to it. Even China, their last powerful ally, hasn't voiced support. No, the only people evil enough to agree with this obscene atrocity, are Putin, Tucker Carlson, and half of American republicans.
It's fascinating to me that we still appear to act like the Oscars means something, despite the fact we've already seen to it that they cowed to saying only what we tell them to. We wouldn't care if an actual parrot told us who best supporting actress is, I don't see how this is any different.
Post-modernism is sucking the meaning out of everything. Presently, prospectively, and retroactively. In their paradigm, every nomination in the past was bad-guy identity politics, and every nomination in the future must be good-guy identity politics. Nothing means anything. It's only power. That's essentially a Voldemort quote, by the way.
This is what happens when you open, even an inch, the door of letting people decide what other people must say/think. It's not a world people can live in. And I mean that literally.
