TAKE NOTICE PEOPLE: Dragon's Dogma managed to turn a huge profit at 1million copies world-wide. Meanwhile, products like SWTOR and and Amalur needed to sell 5 times that or more JUST TO BREAK EVEN.
Love how hard the court system globally has been bringing down the sledgehammer on publishing studios lately. It's nothing short of what they deserve. People complain often that gaming going mainstream was a terrible thing, and in some ways it's true, but because it's mainstream it also has a LOT more people watching it and is going to start requiring a lot more transparency. Those are things they were able to get away with before when it was just us playing in our basements, but not anymore! So beautiful.
@shadowboy88 That only solves half of the problem, though I agree Japanese is actually very easy to learn (seriously, I'm terrible at learning other languages and I picked it up pretty quickly). There's also the issue with latency. Very few eastern games can be played well from the west, and the few that do generally require a proxy of some kind in order to avoid huge delays. The problem is those proxies aren't always dependable. It sucks ;\
Oh, this is truly beautiful. Now all the people that keep trying to defend dlc and forced multiplayer (looking at you, ME3) can get it straight from the horse's mouth.
@winnazdaluza He was 18. What "horrible dead end job" could one possibly have at 18 years old that would make them think they don't have the rest of their lives to at least ATTEMPT to do something better with it? We're not talking about some 60 year old with no prospects. No point in making excuses for the pathetic. There was nothing intentional about it, especially the way he died, it's just someone being irresponsible and stupid. Nothing more, nothing less.
@maniaxe613 Actually, I should clarify, because I just noticed that first sentence could be misleading. I meant to say rather that it's not about it being illegal, they just don't give a damn.
@maniaxe613 *buzzer* This is something you should do a bit of research on before you assume it's illegal. Why do you think sites that offer MAME/Nintendo/Snes ROMS are easily available why places that offer ROMS for current/recent gen systems have to hide in secrecy? News flash bub, they don't care. They're not making money off of it anymore, the only money being exchanged is through second-hand sales, which they don't get a cut of. MAME filters can make up for (and have been making up for) HD Modes, and whether or not Online Play is relevant is entirely up to the consumer. I personally don't give a crap about playing online, especially since within a few months you'll be sitting in 2 hour queues because everyone else will have already moved on.
I don't see this as a good investment, and I think these other companies agree with me. WoW is stagnating, and while yes it still has the market share of subs that is slowly, but surely, changing. It's only going to get worse for WoW, not better, and even if 'worse' is still in a better state than most MMOs, that's not the same as attempting to unload a product while it's at the height of its glory. What Vivendi is offering people is analogous to selling someone a twinky you've already sucked all the cream out of.
At this point if any of the companies they were approaching were going to purchase into an MMO, it would be a newer one that will have a longer shelf life and, ironically, cost them less.
