@BosoxJoe5 You realize that has nothing to do with what I was talking about:http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/justice-dept-order-verizon-deals-17018822#.UDMTFd1lTsUThat's currently being fought tooth and nail because it reduces competition which means companies get to do whatever they like. And whether FiOS has anything to do with Verizon or not is irrelevant, considering there are many places (like where I live) where they are unwilling to put in FIber because of the cable wire already up, yet there is no one else able to compete in the area and either give people other options for Fiber or force existing providers to reconsider.

@Zloth2 This is true, but it's not that easy. Certain companies like Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner are working to monopolize the market (not that they aren't already) and make things like FiOS difficult if not impossible for the average person to acquire. It'll be a long time and a lot of litigation before Fiber is nation-wide, let alone global, and that's about what's needed for something like OnLive to thrive.

@Zloth2 You need to address this within the context it stands. Making tons of money doesn't matter if you spend tons of money. The math isn't difficult even in theory. If you research things like licensing, publishing, and royalty fees, they are atrocious and can easily leave a company in over their head. That doesn't take into account things like overhead, attorney fees, etc.. I'm sure OnLive was turning a profit, but at only 1.5mill "recurring" customers, it clearly wasn't enough considering they just got rescued by someone else.

Saw it coming. The technology isn't evolved enough to allow full playability of the game (graphic issues, cloud data storage problems, internet hiccups) and on top of that, competition like Steam completely shadows Onlive. The latter isn't even in the same league right now, and I'd take downloading games to my HD over playing them on the net and hoping they're still there tomorrow, any day. 1.5m recurring customers is NOTHING. I doubt the money they make from those customers even handles licensing fees, let alone overhead and tech dev. It sounds like they were having financial troubles, and if someone hadn't bought them out, a lot of people would be pissed about their missing games right about now.

You'll have to excuse me for discarding the opinion of a grown man cradling a Mickey Mouse doll. I like violence, I don't want less of it. I want more of it, and I want it to be MEANINGFUL. Life is violent, hiding beyond squash and stretch is a waste of storytelling potential. The greatest stories in the world, the most ancient and enduring, are bloody and violent; they speak to human nature and thus they feel real.

That's not to say games have reached that height, yet. What it is saying is it never will if we're too busy spitting out Disney and Spongebob cartoons to aim for it.

Eh...I'm not mad at them about the ending anymore ever since I read the wiki on the ending dlc and saw the videos. I think they did a fair job at fixing what was broken. But still, there's this feeling of being "done" with the Mass Effect series that I can't shake. Not "done" in an angry way, but just more than ready to move on. Maybe 4+ years from now when they come out with a new one with all new characters and storyline that'll change, but after seeing Shep die, there's just no where to go from there. It's over. I think half the fun of DLC from prior games was it felt like a continuation of a storyline, because those characters still existed and you could imagine them living and having new experiences. But now Shep dies, and those that don't die end up on a deserted planet (and they're all side characters anyway). There's no more wondering where Shep's life will go from here....I think that might be Bioware's biggest mistake; not that they killed Shep, but that they did so in the main game. It might've been smarter to let that happen in DLC later on and end the game differently to avoid this feeling of fruitlessness that many fans feel. And yes, I know that he ~potentially~ survives in the "red" ending (just because they show him take a breath doesn't mean he lives, he could be possessed by a reaper for all people know), but until that's specifically stated cannon, it doesn't matter.

Hmm...I have no love lost for Zynga, but I'm not sure how much merit EA has with this. Aren't all these games essentially the same? I actually played many of these way back when, wondering what the hell people spent hours and hundreds of dollars on. They're all literally exactly the same, with just a few graphic tweaks between them. It's even worse when people have their "towns" fully built, at which point it's just a swath of choppy animation and cluttered, low-budget graphics. EA has about as much justification for suing Zynga as Zynga has for suing every other Facebook company out there.

It's really a genre of its own at this point, if EA ever had a chance to put a stop to it, it has long since past.

@NotCeo It's more than a huge portion actually, it's more like "most" of their subs. I believe last numbers put subs in the US for WoW at around 2.6mill? And that was a while ago. Mind you, that's still a respectable number, but the payment model in the East where most of their subs are is very different and generally goes on hourly rates in internet cafes and such. That means some days, they may be making a lot more than what $15 a month gets them here, and other days they may make much, much less.

@Unfallen_Satan That's actually a very good point I hadn't considered. I played SWTOR in its beta form and knew from the get-go it wasn't worth a sub fee, but it was one of those games that could entertain you for a couple of hours. I doubted I'd get even a month out of it though, so I ignored it until F2P (which I saw as inevitable). At first I was excited about the model, but it's true, the biggest draw to participating in groups - specifically, the Operations and Flashbacks - are either heavily limited or completely shut down. I'm more interested in the single-player storyline, so frankly I don't care, but it also means I won't be contributing much to the population. In the end, they may indeed by shooting themselves in the foot. Probably should have gone the DCUO route, at least there I can participate in raids and such.

@Shinotachi I wouldn't worry too much about that. The BWEs were running without fully utilizing the CPU, which won't be the case at launch. That's all part of the optimization process which usually gets hammered out in the weeks before release. Should certainly be much smoother once they allow the game to take full advantage of a computer's power.
