Yeah I was just pondering about that...Will Cryisis in DX10 give a better performance than DX9 as they advertised it to be or will it completely give your performance a -10 FPS just cause.

It should give a noticable performance boost actually. DX10 isn't supposed to be about eye candy, its supposed to be about a new architecture that is less demanding on games. Basically their goal was to make an 8600GT perform in DX10 perform close to a 7900GS in DX9.

So as long as your system can run Vista without it slowing gameplay, (and since this is a Crysis thread, it probably can) under the same settings, DX10 might be expected to give a +10% fps increase.

I just want to be able to play the game even if its on all low settings

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz

2558MB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

jpph

no the minimum is 2.8ghz cpu

Oh good, so my 2.8GHz Intel Celeron meets the requirements!

Honestly I don't know why they put a ridiculous number out like that. Clock speed is one of the smallest factors when considering CPUs, it does matter considerably, but my single core 2GHz Athlon 64 processor will out perform any single core 3GHz Intel processor.

Specs:

Athlon 64 3200+, Radeon x850xt PE, 1GB DDR400 ram.

What I got from the beta:

Low quality @ 1280x1024, steady framerate, I'd say around 30 fps, but dipping down to around 15 fps during combat, due to my single core cpu bottlenecking.

What I hope to get:

Low quality, perfectly smooth gameplay, since I have a dual core 3800+ sitting on my desk right now waiting for me to install it.

The range is more than 10 feet, definately 20, probably 30 in the right circumstances. I used to use it in highschool when one of my friends was in the classroom next door. Its just an extra feature thats there when you need it, and since it really isn't hurting anything I would rather have it there then not have it. It will never be online since the DS is marketed for younger people. I'm sure somebody will figure out how to use the MSN protocol to access it via the DS web browser if you really want it.

An update would be nice though, I wouldn't mind being able to add friends to it and have it notify me ingame that they are nearby, even if they only have their DS in sleep mode. That would be a useful feature, they could probably even include some kind of hide and seek game!

Half-Life for what it has done for the genre, so if you include counter-strike, day of defeat, and team fortress it wins hands down. But in terms of what I would rather actually sit down and play, hardware limitations aside, I would rather play Halo. I've always found the Half-Life story to be a bit dull, kinda like a tech demo of what stories should have in them, but since this is the PC forum Half-Life is obviously going to win, its like hosting a poll in a sega forum about which is better, Mario or Sonic...

Add to that onboard flash memory and built in browser functionality. The carts do need to get bigger, I think this was the limiting factor in Zelda. The next DS can't be too powerfull however, since with 2 screens it uses 2 processors, and costs twice as much. The main thing they need to do is make it not glossy, there is enough oil on my DS right now to deep fry a french fry.

The Phantom Hourglass showed that the DS still has a lot of potential. Personally I don't know why the DS is selling so well, I've had mine for over a year now and I only have 4 games: Zelda, Metroid, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart. Guess what, they are all first party games! 4 games like that are enough for me to buy a $150 system, but for it to be selling so well thats another story. The majority of third party games are garbage, and IMO they are getting worse as companies rush to take advantage of the sales. The DS isn't done yet because it is utterly lacking in quality games, and it still has all of this untapped potential, now if only developers would spend more than 2 weeks making a game...

If you want to play games, don't get Vista, its such a hassle. My friend got a new pc with vista installed and half of his games wouldn't even run! Basically there are still a lot of redundant features in Vista that will complain for absolutely no reason and stop your game from running.

Examples:

-BF2142 1.25 patch won't install.

-GRAW 2 won't even run.

-Halo 2(which is Vista only!) won't run and gives an error that some other process that probably has nothing to do with Halo 2 and isn't even running, is running.

Basically there are still some huge problems with just running Vista, when I used it it felt like a beta version. I hope SP1 fixes it up a little.

People have to realize that HL2 came out in 2004, at that time his comp was top of the line. The problem definitely has something to do with the hardware or the operating system. Stuttering is either caused by the CPU bottlenecking, or the system running out of ram. Try running HL2 in windowed mode with the Task Manager open to monitor your cpu levels and ram levels, if your memory usage is over 1gb thats your problem.

And its certainly not his system. I have a nearly identical system, just with an x850xt PE and I run HL2 max 100+fps. I did a dual monitor stress test in CSS at 2560x1024 and got 60fps. I was even able to run HL2 on my old eMachines with 256mb ram and Intel 845G integrated graphics..
