@Thanatos2k: in 20 years there maybe no way to connect your snes to a tv. You'll have to bust out an old display with av inputs. So you bash "backwards compatability" but you're concerned about playing 8th Gen games in 20 years? I have 64 snes games uploaded to my one drive I can play them right now without even taking my snes out of the box with xbox. The best is playing wrestle mania 2000 with my friends on a big screen. Best wrestling game imo.
@SavageEvil: with the amount of games coming out exclusives do hurt the industry. It takes away millions from developers. It would be good for everybody if we got rid of exclusives, but like you said Sony isn't having that. They are banking and that's all they care about. Which is understandable due to the financial situation they have been in for the past 10 years. I'm happy to see them thriving with the ps4. It's good for us gamers and it would be bad if they got out of the gaming industry. But it has forced Microsoft to start paying for exclusives again. It sucks but it is necessary to have if they want to compete with everyone else. If you get mad at the idea of HZD or mario coming to Xbox then you are part of the cancer that is shutting down studios left and right. People are losing their jobs and we could be missing out on good games. There is a reason why people say that consoles may die off.
@Thanatos2k: it will eventually affect all of us in negative ways. If you pay attention it already has
With developers making less and less money because of the used game market, it has forced them to implement new ways to make money.
It has come in the form of unnecessary dlc and micro transactions. Games now come loaded with the first wave of dlc maps on the disc just locked away until you pay for it. When I worked on movies in the late 90s I knew guys that were in the gaming industry. We joked around about sonys drm plans but we agreed that eb games and games top was taking a big chunk of change away from developers. Drm didn't happen so guess what happened the price of video games went up ten dollars and another 10 during the 360 era. Developer's and publishers are going to make their money. Without drm the price of a game will either go up ten more dollars or include less and less content and force you to pay 100 or more for the entire package.
You buying used games will save you money today, but it will cost you in the future. The only way to stop that is drm and digital only. Well it won't stop it but it'll delay the price hikes that we'll see this gen.
The reason I don't buy used games is because I like to support the people that make and bring us games not the people that buy them dirt cheap from you and sell them at a 300percent mark up. Gamestop is hurting the industry that's not something I'm trying to support or justify.
I didn't want to support them and their plan, but maybe it would've been a good thing. Looking at the state of the gaming industry now I can only see positive things coming from drm. The kinect is awesome so I never had a problem with it just the price. It was pretty high for voice commands.
They are doing great now and have made the xb1 the best Xbox of all time.
@Thanatos2k: it just wasn't going to work. Sony was trying to find a way to implement drm into a console back in the late 90s but the public didn't want it. Now they want to do it with gt sport but no way is that going down.
Both ms and Sony didn't do it so obviously they are listening. Although it would be a great thing for the industry and the gaming community. It's a win win situation. I don't see how drm could be bad. I never buy used games because I only like to support developers not greedy companies like games top so it wouldn't affect me in a negative way. Maybe only positives like better games and possibly cheaper prices or delaying inflation.
@Barighm: not sure if you were around back then but the ps1 and ps2 had crazy failure rates. Game magazines used to joke and say that if your ps2 made it past the 90 day warranty that you were lucky as most of ps2 would stop reading the disc after 90 days. The og ps1 you used to have to flip it upside down for it to realign the cheap laser fir the games to work. The launch ps3 was better but some would get too hot and burn out. That's why they removed the backward compatibility. Sony isn't the king of hardware by any means. That's probably Ni tendo
It doesn't matter if you win by an ice or a mile, winning is winning.lol
