The latest rumor, generated from several patent sites, claims that Sony has secured a patent for a disk technology that prevents the use of used, as well as pirated, software. From the registered patent description:

"A device and method for protection of legitimate software against used software and counterfeit software in recording media… A specific title code is read, and if this title code has been registered, the main unit shifts to a normal operation. If the code has not been registered, verification software is initiated… If matching does not occur, the disk is processed as illegitimate software… Since only titles for which legitimate software has actually been purchased and which have been initially registered in the machine table can be used, resale (so-called used software purchase) after purchase by an end-user becomes practically impossible."

Does Sony plan to employ this technology in the PlayStation 3? Not likely. If so, PS3 owners would not be able to rent (used) games or borrow their friends' games—or even purchase used games! Sure, the technology could be used for Blu-Ray movies, but for games? It just won't go down like that… right?

That would be the worst move in history of video games!
I wouldn't blame Sony for blocking out pirated games, I wouldn't blame any company actually.
The used game market doesn't hurt anyone.

Some people can't pay $60.00 for a new game or a game that has been out for a 6 months or a few years.
I doubt Sony will use this in the PS3.

Since when the hell has it become a crime to do what you want with your own property?
Microsoft seems to think that regardless of you purchasing an XBOX or 360, you can't do what you want with it.
Apperently you don't actually own your system even though you payed 400 bucks for their system.
It's still Microsoft's property, well that's the way they come off about the MOD community.
We are not criminals, we just look for ways to make our stuff better.
Granted, there are some people out there that are only interested in piracy, but you don't make the situation any better by targeting the community as a whole.

We all know why M$ hates modders so much, part of the reason is because of the XBOX-LINUX project proved how grotesquely flawed their system is.

I feel happy as hell today!!!
Not because it's Halloween, but because today is the first anniversary that my wife and I have been married!!
(Even though it should have been our 3rd, but that's complicated.)
So today we are going out to eat at Famous Dave's Restaurant.
We are going to enjoy this day regardless that it's like 30-something degrees outside.
I really wish that we were still in NYC so we could go and watch the Halloween parade this year, but unfortunately we are not....
But there is always next year!

It's so easy to blame a devolper and publisher, it's easy to find a scape goat, but it's hard as hell to fess up to your own short comings.
Maybe if people would stop relying on video games and other forms of entertainment to raise their kids, We wouldn't see problems like some little punk shooting up a school and saying they got the idea from GTA.

22 days until the PS3 is launched....
I'm quite confident that will be a huge success based on the PS1 and PS2 sales stats over their life spans.
I'm really hopeing that Sony suprises us all and has their intended 6 million units ready and in stores by November 17th instead of their alleged 400,000 units.
I mean that would be a hell of a sales strategy to convince the public that there is a limited number, and cause a mass panic in people.
There is always the desire to have the first of anything in us humans.
More people will line up anxious to get their consoles nervously wondering if when they get to the front of the line...
They will be told that the PS3 is sold out....
But if there was indeed enough consoles, you would have to be further back in the line to see that fear realized....This is just my opinon, and I do hope that Sony really does have all 6 million units prepared for launch....
Only time will tell....

I just don't understand why people are complaining about the price of the PS3. $600 dollars, big $%^&$& deal!
To EVERYONE that has complained about the price go live in N.Y.C for a week.
You will see the difference of the cost of living there in comparison to your little towns.
Everyone I know that livesIn the city agrees, they can't wait to get their hands on that PS3.
But it's not only a PS3, it a Blu-Ray DvD Player,A media center over-all. And you get it all for $600 bucks.
In the mean time, Stand alone Blu-Ray players run for $1000 easily.
So it wouldbe foolish to pass this thing over because of the price.

Hell, I work at a job that pays fair, I'm not rolling in the dough, But to me.... It's a damn good deal.

And to those people that so incessently talk trash about Sony and the PS3, If you don't like it, don't buy it.
No-one really cares about your grips.
You don't know what Value is.
