I knew this was going to happen, when i started to feel like STEAm was getting messy, Valve not caring about games that dont even work,. like no quality control. What major publisher wants to be a part of a retail store that has THEIR 100 million dollar game next to a game thats like green lit or a game that doesnt even work, the cards will fall soon. Fortnight has more players than Steam's top 5 games. If Valve doesnt get their sht together, get rid of ALL the broken sht games. Clean up the store. Second start releasing a new Half Life , at least Episode 3. Left 4 dead 3. A new Day of Defeat and start negotiating better with major publishers, like EA. This was going to happen. Games DRIVE stores. Steam originally was created with Valve games. Most of the people that are still ON STEAM are counter strike players and of course PUBG now and DOTA.
@Thanatos2k: its not actually, go look at the statistics. those numbers are the statistics. fortnight every month has 78 million players. Steam's top 3 games have 64 million players. per month. without pubg? even less lol
@Thanatos2k: why would Ubisoft not see a huge benefit in Epic store considering on the Epic store, one game (Fortnight) has more players than STEAM's entire top 100 catalogue. Which is huge exposure for Ubisoft.
Like the top 3 STEAM,still has less players per month than just fortnight by itself. 78 million for FORTNIGHT, AND 64 million for the top 3 STEAM games. that means Fortnight has more players and more exposure to gamers than STEAMS entire catalogue for gamers. It means a huge deal. So if one game on EPC can take out STEAM whole catalogue and ubisoft and other publishers start to move to it. Yeah EPIC Store could gradually, not to long either, have a larger playerbase, by far than STEAM. They already have a larger playerbase. Just with 1 game. So yeah, games from Valve are super important.
@Thanatos2k: secondly to back that up, the only reason Epic has the power to steal a major company like Ubisoft away from STEAM, is because of Fortnight. Fortnight has a ginormous playerbase. Ubisoft sees Epic as the next STEAM. So Valve not creating their own IPs anymore is actually hurting them. That's probably why CS:GO is now FTP, with a battle royale mode, to try and compete with Fortnight. Ubisoft is a giant client. Theyve switched becuase Fortnight is massive.
The only reason STEAM got STEAM to be a retailer, is because in 2004, when Half Life 2 was released you had to insteall STEAM. You didnt have a choice and everyone hated it. Everyone complained about having to install this thing, even though we all had physical copies of Counter Strike Source and Half Life 2, also the offline compatibility was atrocious. So we grumbled and because we all wanted to play HAlf Life 2 so much and the new Counter Strike we bit th ebullet and installed STEAM. It was at least a year before it turned into a serious actual retailer. Without Counter Strike and half lilfe, STEAM would not exist, they used everyone who played their games as guinea pigs for their retail platform. Publishers started gravitating towards STEAM because of the playerbase.
@Thanatos2k: thats beside the point, the owners are valve, the reason we all went to STEAM, is because of valve games and now Indie games and other publishers games eventually went to STEAM to, because all the CS and Half life and team fortress and day of defeat players were at STEAM, its what started the store off, the fact other publishers games were there, was a bonus, then it snowballed, into this giant retail store. but the bread and butter of the STEAM store is STILL CS:GO players, DOTA 2 players, Half life, day of defeat, left 4 dead players, that buy other stuff from STEAM. Its why we go to Battle.net and Blizzard website to get Starcraft and warcraft, however if Activision/Blizzard starting opening up their own store to other publishers in a major way, that entices people that play the blizzard products to buy other publishers products to, further moving customers away from STEAM. Also STEAM is ripe for the pickings at the moment, because they have barely any quality control over their indie games at the store.
SO yeah, i think they do need to start creating new games again. Although, they still have a giant fanbase with CS:GO and DOTA etc and now PubG, but who knows if Epic starts getting Ubisoft games and other publishers start leaving STEAM, then Valve will lose some customers. EA has yet to need to even be on STEAM with Origin. However i still think EA would get more fence sitter buyers , if they had Battlefield and Battlefront on STEAM. Like because STEAM is the platform i go to, i havent even looked at Call Of Duty Black Ops 4.
That's a big deal. Is that all the farcrys gone to? STEAM didn't innovate. Also lack of actual Valve games, to KEEP people contantly using STEAM. No Half life 2 episode 3, No Left 4 dead 3. They need to also keep producing games of quality to. They got complacent didnt think they needed to, but they do. Not Just DOTA. How bout another Day OF Defeat? Another Team Fortress? Another Half Life? How bout a totally NEW IP from valve? That's the problem here, i reckon. They just became a store and im a gamer, I went to STEAM to play and buy Valve games initially, never even thought it was going to be a retailer. Because valve games were so good, i stuck around to purchase games from other companies that used it as a retailer. But now its time for Valve to actually start putting ALL that money they earn into some more game production, i reckon. This could just be the beginning, of companies leaving, which would mean STEAM will just be an Indie retailer. Which isn't a bad thing, completely. Make some more games Valve....before you lose ALL the big games. They never got Blizzard games, Blizzard never needed them.
@wswedin: i dont think a 10 is that. a 10 for me, just needs to tick all the boxes. You could have a game thats groundbreaking, thats not a 10. Counter Strike back in the day was groundbreaking, but was it really a 10?If a game has no major bugs, is interesting, fun, entertaining, doesnt even need to tell a great story. Is it all the above, flawless in loads of different catagories, that can be a 10 for me. The first 2 original zeldas, groundbreaking, but were they really 10's?
@doa2169: i think Bestheda still thinks that it is 2005 and they are still the only company producing open world RPGS. Borderlands has more to offer than the last 3 Fallout games. Does it want to be a shooter or an RPG? They need to choose and fast, because real Fallout fand since Fallout 2 wont all go out and buy Fallout 5. If it wants to be shooter then theres flat out better shooters out there, Borderlands is just 1 example. Borderlands even has smoother and better graphics with less issues and glitches. Bestheda needs an entirely new engine to , to compete in 2018.
