@RicanV: It it not inaccurate comparison. The monthly games, the discounts, the online play, are all part of the monthly service you pay for. None of these three parts can possibly be "free" since Sony is incurring a cost to provide it, and the money comes out of the income it makes from the subscribers. We, subscribers, pay for it. Therefore it's like saying I pay for Netflix and with this money I watch all these films, with the exception of stranger things which is the only thing in the package which is free because I have decided so. Don't get caught in the marketing trying to make you feel better. The psplus is an excellent deal for sure but you cannot say the games are free, they are in your monthly fee.
@Javier: Absolutely correct, you pay for a service which includes downloadable games. Otherwise it's like saying that when I pay for Netflix I get to watch Stranger Things for free.
@domiddian: If you think there is social justice in a mega-budget movie about a pretty girl who jumps around dressed in scanty clothes which accentuates breast and legs I suggest you watch something else, like "Madeo (2009)" or "Mommy (2014)
@SoNin360: "free" is the word that companies would like for us to use when talking about their services. Netflix, Spotify, would also love for us to say we get "free" music and films, it's great advert for them especially if you speak to someone who is not familiar with the concept of subscription service.
@killersushi: I mean the new Resident Evil, Nioh, Nier Automata, Final Fantasy,The Last Guardian, Yakuza, etc. A few years ago everyone was despairing Japan had lost touch, not a lot of good games were coming out. Keiji Inafune was one of the most vocal about this. But today a lot of these titles are good and innovative as well. I'm only talking about Japan of course
Regardless of Zelda, I think we can all agree that something magic is happening in Japan right now, the industry has awakened from the slumber and are churning out amazing game after the other.
@creation0: Regarding the ps3 vs x360 sales, My opinion on the matter is that anyone who had a ps2 (a very successful console) would have been very inclined in purchasing a ps3 rather than a x360, so people waited. Of course this is valid only for the beginning of the lifetimes of the consoles, afterwards the x360 proved to be a great console and sold well. Re the current generation, I agree that one year after the x1 presentation people would have forgotten about it, but remember that after the presentation MS kept banging on "it needs to be always online", "the kinect is part of the console" for months, and then backtracked on everything. People were making fun of it everywhere. Then after launch it was less powerful than the ps4, games were not running in full hd. I think these are the things that really tarnished the trust and people bought the ps4 en masse. This is my humble opinion :)
I still believe part of the PS4 success this generation is borne out of the mess that was the XONE presentation. Of course Sony also played all (most) of their cards very well, but many people I know bought a PS4 this round just because Microsoft had cut themselves a reputation for being "evil" which has always been difficult to shake off. Once one console is in the majority, friends of friends will buy the same console in order to share physical games.
