@rooster1223: So, you could download the games...then disconnect your Xbox One from the internet and continue to play the games a month later? I don't think that's true. That's the picture that he's painting.
The player-base gets what they deserve if they feed this monster. Show that this is a profitable business for them, and it won't stop here. Heed my words Destiny fans. Don't feed this monster.
I guess there are two very important questions...because I *was* interested in this game until I saw the reviews.
1) Is this content going to be free only for a limited time, or is this DLC always going to be available...even if I buy the game 2 years from now?
2) Are they planning on doing an annual release of this game? If so, they need rename it and put Jordan Spieth on the cover, not McIlroy.
(a) Will the annual iterations have all this same content, or will it be as void of content every year...only to have it be paid DLC in the future?
Until this game gets to 16 courses (minimum) and some solid game modes, then I'm not going to be interested. I'll stick to my TW PGA Tour 2012 Masters Collection.
@brazprince: Unfortunately, by the time they release any sort of update with Minecraft, it's probably going to try and incorporate HoloLens. It'll be lost on the masses, and only have a small and dedicated uptake. People will wonder why they tried to shoehorn the usage of HoloLens, and it will make the game little more than "novelty". Look to the history of the Kinect for a great example of this. Unfortunately, I don't expect MS to learn from that mistake.
@MoreThot: Which would you prefer? 720p with a solid 60fps, or 1080p with framerate drops down to 30fps at times during your gameplay?
That's essentially where we are at with this console generation. And it's a concession that has to be made. Unfortunately, people are of two (or three or four) competing philosophies, and you're not going to please everyone.
Personally, I think I would be fine with 720p @ 60fps, solid. Frame rate drops can really be dismal and wreck gameplay/immersion depending on the severity/frequency of it.
@k9kal85: It's not about "letting go"; it's about the general consumer population. They don't "live and breathe" gaming the way that many of us on these forums do. Most consumers are still stuck on that first impression/reveal that they heard. So, many of them probably waited. They can't be bothered to go and read up on all the changes and course corrections that MS have made. So, they go back to that initial reveal, and then go...gee, my friends that game all have PS4s, so I'll just go that route, now that I'm ready to upgrade.
I really wonder if Xbox had some "delusions of grandeur" and just wanted to see if they could start turning profit margins similar to Apple (40%+). I also wonder if they didn't see all of this negativity and backlash coming at all. I mean, it seems to me that they could have taken their lumps early on and reduce the price right off the bat. Sure, it would have meant losing money on every console sold, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
You can compare the PS2 --> PS3 "transition" to the Xbox 360 --> Xbox One "transition". But, the bottom line is, the PS3 caught up to the Xbox 360 in sales, and eventually surpassed them, I believe. I've owned four 360s, and only two PS3s. I'm sure many others have owned multiple of that generation. Will Xbox One even come close to sales parity of the PS4? Highly unlikely.
