If you CAN buy the i7, I really don't understand why you would want to go for older technology.

The i7 is not exactly necessary, it doesn't offer any real improvements in gaming over quad cores, and although its much faster at running applications a quad core will still suffice. But at the end of the day it is the newest processor, it does offer improvements, isnt that much more expensive, and buying the newest processor will ensure your PC will be futureproof for many years.

Don't bother getting the quad imo

Well I've heard Q6600's are good, cheap and overclock very well. Otherwise maybe a Q9400? Not too sure myself. But anyway, it's not too important, just get a relatively cheap one, the games are much more dependent on the graphics card. How much extra can you spend?

5/6 out of 10 as a gaming rig (I assume thats what you want it for?)

Its pretty good, although if you want it to last a good while get a quad core, even if its a cheap one, you can always OC. Best not to going for a 2 (will be 3 this year) generation old CPU. Otherwise its good!

medium settings is the max you'll get at a decent resolution, full settings not a chance in hell

Get the 295 without a doubt. Whose to say you can't add another one of those in SLI in the future, when the price drops, that would be an utter beast. If you can afford it, its best to go for the best, a 295 runs everything maxed now and you won't even need to think about another one for some time anyway.

Ok cool yeah I'm taking it back, no point getting all the latest futureproof stuff if I can't upgrade the RAM any further. Will do in the next few days hopefully. Otherwise its a kickass rig ;)

Just checked, yeah its 32 bit, bit annoying because I paid for 6GB...

Is it worth taking back? Because then they'd have to install 64 bit I assume and wipe this OS...or should I leave it?

I'm not entirely sure they didn't specify 32 or 64. Like the computer seems to be running good so its working, but whats the difference between 32 and 64bit?

New rig arrived today, got it custom made at a local shop, i7 920, GTX 295, 1TB HDD, Blu Ray etc etc.

Really nice system, installed Crysis on it and its running maxed at 19x12 no sweat, but theres one thing I noticed.

When I click properties on Computer, it says the system only has 4GB of RAM? Now I know i7's are meant to have tri channel memory right, and even when I ordered it I definetly chose 6GB of DDr3 RAM, yet now its saying they only put in 4. Is this worth going and changing? Could it cause any problems with the PC?

Well the same thing happened to me about a month ago, I took it to the shop and they said the fans were so clogged with dust and dirt (our house was being renovated) that it just shut down after using it for too long. They cleaned it out properly and now it works fine, dunno maybe thats the problem, have a look inside the fans
