Myself? I thought this confirmed 100% that if you are a "Gamer" you better stay well away from Wii unless you already have a ps3 or 360. Clearly Nintendos focus is almost entirely on kids and girls now. I think the times have passed where we expect the new Zelda or Mario game to revelotutionise the industry...

hardware wise the cost of console is more but when you take into account the different amounts of software that go into a cellphone the price matchs...symbian,flash lite, gps software etc etc...the main reason i think it will work is because technology is getting so expensive to purchase when new now...and risky (hd-dvd vs bray). People wont take the gamble in the first year which means developer produce utter rubbish which again effects sales...a vicious circle.

The flat monthly fee should be applied for sure with movies and stuff...the numbers of people using bit torrent and streaming movies shows that people are not willing to pay per view anymore but are willing to use online media...sooner or later the movie companies will bow to pressure...piracy always wins (half of it is committed by rivzal companies anyway lol).

that would probably cover the cost of redistributing the returned console. Just again thinking of the cellphone industry...a nokia n95 8gig costs same as xbox360 to make.

besides im no ceo so i dont have the figures but im sure that a price close to that would be doable.

I live in the UK. Everybody has a cellphone.I have 6.

13 years ago nobody had them except business types. Yet in such little time there are more cellphones in the UK then there are next gen consoles in the world.

Obvisouly this is down to a major turning point, which, many in the industry put down to pay as you go phones but alot also put down to the option of "free phone" with a 12 month contract. Apple have also jumped on that bandwagon.

Why does this only have to apply for phones?

Lets apply that same technique to games consoles:

a free xbox 360, free xbox live for 1 year, 1 free live arcade game a month...cost £20 per month. Is there anyone who thinks that is not good? The bennefits would be great for MS also...more money to be spent on games initially which means more money to MS, everyone goes on xbox live with a free sud so everybody is a potential customer for downloadable content, console sales would be massive due to the nature of impulse buyers (trust me the cellphone industry thrives on them).

It is my prediction that the first console manufacturer to apply this business model will win hands down. It would require such massive start up capital though (PRe manufacturing of stock with only 10% of normal return in first month) that only microsoft could afford to pull it off.

If you ask me that is the best way to ensure a console in every home, online and ready to purchase online content!

and for those who dont like it...purchase it the normal way!

This thread has done something very important.

To me...it has finally solved the riddle of why so many people on this site complain about a tiny £5 fee for xbox live...because you are all kinda tight!!and a little stupid!

Let me explaine....

I have seen pics on here of people with £2000 worth of gaming setup, loads of games etc...multiple consoles. And it is all rigged up to some of THE most crappy non HDTVs i have ever seen...like 10 year old stuff.

Myself, i am a man who like his setups and stuff...im moving today so my stuff is packed or i would share. I cannot see the point of wasting cash on all that stuff if you cant even appriciate one game in its "as intended" visual quality.

and yeah blah blah blah "gameplay" blah blah...im sorry but i cannot even entertain the idea of cod4 in non 1080i/p.

invest in modern tech tvs...its worth it!

why? Because you have had it too good for too long.

I, like many Brits, have been ripped off year after year after year on Game prices, console prices and the price of everything else.I recall back in the days of PS1 and Saturn that things were just released here as $500 equals £500 (and believe me your dollar has never been that strong!) And only recently do companies get out a calculator and start converting prices properly (thanks to excellent import specialists forcing them to).

There have been an endless number of Americans on this site whining about the price of fuel effecting their abilty to purchase games etc. because you pay $4 a gallon!!!$4 stinking measely dollars!!!well let me tell you now that over here in the UK i just filled up my mini cooper 2008 with fuel that cost £54 full a full tank!thats $108 for a tank of gas!! we pay $8 a gallon!And my crysler pt cruiser is another staory!and car insurance?4 years ago i paid £3700 for my first years insurance on a crysler!So yes....stop complaining because i still can afford less then a tank of fuel on a game. And furthermore i am happy those prices are not going up (not for GAMEs lack of trying).

honestly games are not that expensive, consoles are not that expensive!And in the states it is ridiculouly cheap!You guys have had cheap food, fuel, clothes and taxes (10% ffs) for far too long and now you all complain when you still pay less then everyone else...and its not like we are richer here cuz wages work out the same...i only earn around 40k a year and i live in the most expensive city in the world.

My advice to any "struggling" US gamer is to prepare to stop purchasing that EA trash you guys love so much and go for a collection of quality over quantity!Online games!xbox360!...i only played 1 game for a meaningful amount of time this year and that was cod4 on 360(gold cross mofo) and it cost £29.99 and saved me about £300 on turned down nights out!

so no more complaining plz...it makes you guys look stupid when us british have paid through the nose and hardly had anything to say about it!...not to mention you still get releases before us!
