New addition to my Pokemon collection!

A little Cherrim figurine! I know I have one already, but it doesn't hurt to have more than one. And by the way the two look different, and this one's smaller than my first one too. This came in a set of twelve small Pokemon figurines and the catch is, you don't know what Pokemon is in the box until you open it up. I got a Dusknoir from this set once, and dread the day I would get the Machamp one while searching for either Togekiss or Cherrim, which I didn't, to my relief. Lucky me- I got this Cherrim just the other day. :) Photo taken with Nintendo DSi.

Pokemon Black/White Artwork/Screenshots

http://nintendo5star.blogspot.com/2010/05/artworkscreenshots-of-pokemon.html

Lots of new screenshots released on the official Japanese Pokemon website! Black and White look more and more impressive by the day, and the adult Trainers/central city may give a hint to overall change in the game's structure(maybe not, but a guy can hope :P)

The link above takes you to even more shots, so go check that out. Oh yeah, the starters, I don't care what anyone says, I'm still picking Mijumaru. (water type). I'm starting to get comfortable with the new designs. :)

Anyone here with Photo Dojo?

I don't get DSi Points that easily since the points cards aren't sold in my country, nor can I redeem any points using a credit card due to Nintendo's stupid payment policy, so usually I just jump at any opportunity to download any free games Nintendo happened to be offering at the moment. Even if I did find out later Photo Dojo is a load of old pants :P But hey, what do you expect from something that's worth 200 points? Okay, so maybe it isn't all that bad. Just looking at it makes you want to download it just for the novelty value alone. And it looks downright hilarious and embarrassing when you get yourself on the wall making poses and recording sounds and then find the same poses and sounds applied in-game. This is more of a social title, so I'll see if I can have a crazier time with four friends to the wall. Or I could snap pictures of Reggie Fils-Aime, Captain Falcon and Chuck Norris off the web and make them fight each other. :P Anyone got their free game yet?

Nintendo's Online Fallacy

So far, DS and Wii players have been able to go online with their consoles completely free of charge. But Miyamoto said that could change in the future. Nintendo, using paid online? I laugh at you.

Taken from Miyamoto's interview with EDGE Magazine, Shigsy looks now to profit from Nintendo's online scene.

"Probably the other thing that we are desperate to realize is the core [online] business structure," "Do we need to demand customers pay monthly fees to enjoy online activities? Or give an online subscription that is free of charge, but then offer something extra for people that pay, so that they get some extra value? With these core business strategies, I think we are less active than we should be."

I don't know about you, but that move will completely demolish whatever fragile foundations Nintendo has on the online scene, and then some. For one thing, among the three consoles this generation, it has the weakest online network, requiring antiquated Friend Code systems, different for each game, and the console has to be powered on to receive any messages. WiiConnect24 is a term no one uses any more, because errors and unstable connections are the norm everytime you try to make use of it. And the usual connection speed for online games is terrible. If you've ever tried to play a game on Smash Bros. Brawl or The Conduit., you'll know. Why should anyone pay for inferior online services when the PS3 can manage much better, and still not charge a single cent?

Miyamoto acknowledged that the company "hasn't been very proactive" when it comes to segments like the massively multiplayer online genre, but said the company has implemented online features well in areas "where we can provide our customers with more fun and entertainment."

I'll bet a tenner everyone wants to do away with the Friend Codes, first and foremost. Whatever happened to a universal name for all games on the same console? Oh, but there's more than one person sharing the console? Introduce a login/logout system! And improve the connection speed! It's simple for me to say, and it should be just as simple for the programming bods to make it a reality. They can manage phenomenal games like Mario Galaxy, why not this?

Consider also, that most of the people who currently go online are the casual gamers introduced to gaming by DS and Wii alone. Already this group of people won't find much to enjoy from Nintendo's limited online experience. Nintendo went to great lengths to even convince casuals that online games even exist, let alone make them come online and play a round of Mario Kart and download something off the Wii/DSi Shop Channel. Making them pay to play? It would only crush whatever little progress Nintendo has made into online gaming. Capcom realized this with Monster Hunter Tri and made the online portion free to play on the US and European versions, where Monster Hunter isn't as established as it is in Japan. Grow a brain, Nintendo.

Also, know all your sales figures? How many Wiis have been sold in the span of four years? That many millions, right? *is too lazy to re-check* How many of those were sold in the major regions, Japan, US, Europe and Australia? I'll get to the point now. How many Wiis were sold that AREN'T in the four major regions?

Right now, Microsoft gets it right, you can pay for Live subscription anywhere in the world, but not Nintendo. Can't buy Nintendo Points because it isn't sold in your country? Charge it with a credit card! Simple enough, right? No. Nintendo USA only bills credit cards from the US/Canada only. International players are all screwed. You know the country select in the Wii System Menu?DSi System Menu? You put in any country, ANY country that isn't the United States, you won't be able to go into the Wii Shop Channel/ DSi Shop Channel because 'The Shop Channel is not available in your country'. BS. Cyberspace can be accessed from anywhere in the world. It's not like I can't establish a connection with your shop server if I lived in Antigua and Barbuda, for instance. So I have to lie about my country just to use your online store?

Don't believe me? Go try it. Nintendo are too blind to notice that there are real people outside North America that wants to play online but can't make full use of it because it discriminates against everyone who wants to pay money outside of that region. If Nintendo decides to charge for even being able to go online, with its current payment policy, it's effectively a complete lockdown for everyone who doesn't live in the same continent as the Nintendo HQ. You have customers and buyers who contributed to your profit margin that aren't in any of these places, Nintendo. You have SUPPORTERS and FANS outside the United States! We love you, so why won't you love us in return? What did we do to deserve this? Not being able to join Club Nintendo is fine. But you have to lock us out even online?

Nintendo has already made this much profit with their console and handheld sales already. They've captured the hearts of millions with their innovation and creativity and bringing new gaming experiences to the table. But it seems Nintendo is losing a grip of itself these days. They make money from Wiis and DSes sold, and are, last I heard, the only company who profits off every console sold. Nintendo makes money off WiiWare/DSiWare. That's alreadyy a lot. Paying for online may well be the tipping point, and just shows Nintendo's continuous greed for more and more money. It's likely, that they'll just lose even more fans than they already have with this mistake of a move. One step forward, two steps back.

Of course, if it's the second alternative.....being able to play for free and then have extra features paid for, then there's no complaint. Just review your payment policy so a Malaysian Nintendo supporter like me can actually use your online to its fullest potential.

Two adorable Download-only games

Just looking at them gets me all excited and stuff :D One is already out, the other doesn't have a release date yet. One is DSiWare, the other is for XBox Live Arcade (thus explaining why I can't get either one of them). Both have characters so cute I just want to cuddle them XD

The DSiWare game is DodoGo!

Prevent the dodo bird's extinction by protecting their eggs! And the eggs are the cutest things I've ever seen. You can soothe them when they're crying and apply bandages when they crack, in addition to the puzzle-platforming to protect them which forms the main crux of the gameplay. You can even unlock costumes for the eggs! How cute is that? 800 points, this!

The XBLA game(which is even more impossible for me to get than any DSiWare game) is ilomilo!

Only just recently announced by a budding dev group SouthEnd for XBox Live Arcade, the gameplay is pretty much an unknown, but it involves manouvering around cube-shaped platforms(which could double as cushions, they all look so soft), rotating angles and stuff, perhaps to get to a goal and reunite the red and blue characters (which I assume are called Ilo and Milo...don't ask why . Obviousness :P)

I might say, these are the best graphics I've ever seen in a puzzle game. Not that the puzzle genre needs complex graphics to succeed. Check out the wonderfully arty trailer for ilomilo. Even the enemies and background objects have cute faces on them. This is....argh...I love it!

Togekiss Pokedoll~

IT'S HERE! I waited one week for my eBay shipment to arrive. The small box contained...this!

My 6-inch Togekiss Pokedoll shipped today! It's smaller than I thought it would be, it's only a little larger than the palm of my hand. Isn't it an angel? Togekiss is a lovely angel~ Photos taken with DSi.

I paid $35 for mine too. Guess the most adorable dolls are also the most expensive.
