pikastatic100 Blog

Back with an Update Long Overdue

Hey, everyone... :P Looks like I set a new record once again for no blogging; it's been exactly half a year since I last blogged. o_o As usual, school has been keeping me away from the TV.com social life, but to be honest, at the same time I've also been getting pretty socially detached from this site in general.

With the first half of high school in the bag (still keeping those straight A's ^_^), a lot is happening with life in general that I honestly find more interesting (and more important) than TV.com... which seems to have even less people around this year. I've still been around; I have a major editorship to keep up-to-date with, and while I'm at it I check out the forums a bit, but I do a lot more lurking than posting nowadays. I still plan on hanging around this site, but I'm moving on more this year (i.e., still not planning on posting too much). I do plan to blog more this summer though, and I hope to see you all around. :D

Anyway, enough of that. A lot has happened over the past six months. Pokemon Black and White came out, which I have been going totally gaga over when I have the chance. The Nintendo 3DS also came out, and while I admit it looks pretty dang cool, it isn't good enough for me to purge the same amount of money that the Wii cost when it first came out. I'll wait until the price drops (significantly) or just wait for the "3DS lite."

I got my instruction permit a couple of weeks ago, and I'm excited that I'm finally learning how to drive (and completely focused). With the final Harry Potter movie coming out in a couple of weeks, I'm amassing all of the previous movies and watching them all beforehand to build up the anticipation for Harry's final stand (for books and movies alike). :D

My condolences go out to all the families who have been impacted by the Japan earthquakes, tsunami, and nuclear reactor. Japan has really been through a lot this year. The disaster was horrible, and I wish them the very best in rebuilding and restoring their lives.

Well, I suppose this blog wouldn't be the same if I stopped tacking on the usual randomness at the end; so here you go. ;)

Random Pokemon of the Day:

Zweilous

Zweilous (Japanese: ジヘッド Jiheddo) - The Hostile Pokemon. Since their two heads do not get along and compete with each other for food, they always eat too much. After it has eaten up all the food in its territory, it moves to another area.

Random GIF of the Day:

BOO!

I suppose that's all for this blog entry. Happy Early Independence Day, everyone! This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya! ;)

Happy New Decade, 2011 - 2020!

Well, I did a big colorful blog sign last year, so why not continue the "tradition." :P

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

And not only is it a new year, but we start a brand new decade as well. I look back at the new year's blogs I made a year ago and see how big of a deal I made over a new decade that hadn't even started yet.:P Of course, it's a common mistake, but I'm glad I got it drilled into my head this year that all the years that end with 1 start new decades, not the years that end with 0.:P

Anyway, this will also sadly be my last blog entry for a while.:( Winter Break has come to a close for me, as I go back to school on Monday. I'm not sure when I'll be able to blog again, but it likely won't be until Spring Break comes around (in the beginning of April). Rest assured, though, I will be back.;)

Now, to start the new year and decade, I think it's time to turn the tables with the Random Pokemon of the Day. Coincidentally, the first English Pokedex entry for a Generation V Pokemon was revealed several days ago, so what better Pokemon to feature for the first day of the decade than #1 in the Unova Pokedex. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you...

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/75/495Snivy.png

Snivy (Japanese: ツタージャ Tsutarja) - The Grass Snake Pokemon. It is very intelligent and calm. Being exposed to lots of sunlight makes its movements swifter.

Pokemon Black/White Release Date & Odd News to End the Decade!

Some awesomeness for those of you who are fans of the Pokemon games: the U.S. release date has been revealed for the new Generation V Pokemon games, Black and White, as March 6th, 2011! :D I must admit, this is at least a few weeks sooner than I expected, but I'm all the more happy because of it. The two games are now available for pre-order in a variety of places, and the English names for Pokemon just keep coming in. I'm sure I'm speaking for a lot of people when I say that I can't wait for these games to come out.

Anyway, as the title states, this will be my last blog entry of not just this year, but the whole decade as well. I haven't posted odd news articles on my blog for a while, so I thought that would be a fun way to close up the blog entries for the first decade of the millennium.:D

Let in snow, let it snow (link+video)

Everybody loves snow, right? Tons of snow means school cancellations, snowball fights, snowmen and snow forts. But the best part? Coming inside from the snow -- kicking off cold, wet boots and getting warm and dry.

Unless you're Steve and Betty Ehlers of Iowa. The couple came home from a trip to find their entire house covered with snow. Not the outside, mind you -- the INSIDE. A side door had blown open, letting in about half a foot of snow, giving new meaning to having a "White Christmas."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They're probably going to want to shovel as much of that snow out of there as possible before turning on the heat if they don't want several ponds next. Anyway, time for randomness:
Mew
Mew (Japanese: ミュウ Mew) - The New Species Pokemon. Apparently, it appears only to those people who are pure of heart and have a strong desire to see it. Its DNA is said to contain the genetic codes of all Pokemon, so it can use all kinds of techniques.
Back for Break: Past Happenings & Whatnot
Hey everyone, how have things been going? It's been several months since I lasted blogged, but I did say that I would return during Winter Break.;)
Well... a lot has happened these past few months since school kicked off again; way too much for me to mention here. I suppose the most notable thing that happened to me since I last blogged was that I broke a bone for the first time in my life; more specifically, I fractured my left tibia while volunteering for my city's parks volunteer program. >_< It happened around the end of September, and I ended up in a wheelchair for about a month and then on crutches for a month more. Fortunately, though, I'm back on my feet again; my leg is still in the process of completely healing, but it's been doing so swiftly, and I'm doing exercises with it (swimming, biking, etc.) to get it back in full form and recover muscle that I lost while in the cast.
School-wise, I'm happy to say that I'm keeping up the straight A's. It's been significantly more difficult this year as a result of far more challenging classes, but I'm not letting the increased difficulty (or a broken leg for that matter) stop me.:P It's been a fun experience so far this year; I'm really enjoying my classes for the most part, and it's been... how do I put this... interesting, being a sophomore and seeing so many reflections of me one year ago, in many of the freshmen.
Anyway, I may be intensely focused on the real world this year, but I haven't let go of my anime, manga, and video game hobbies. The Naruto and Bleach mangas have really been getting good lately, and I've been continuing to follow the news flow for Pokemon Black and White; I'm really pumped for when they come out in the U.S. this coming Spring.:D My first impressions of the new Generation V Pokemon were that they were... quite bizarre. But I quickly took a liking to them, and studying them more closely, a lot of them look like they'll be awesome to battle with; more specifically, in competitive battles (and the competitive battling hype and analysis is really soaring).
Regarding TV.com: I've still been popping in weekly since I last blogged to attend to editor duties and occasionally look at the forums, but I haven't really followed much going on here. Has anything significant happened here (or on GameSpot) these past few months? (The sites don't seem to have changed much at all.)
In any case, that's pretty much all I've got to say. I'll be sure to blog some more before Winter Break is over.:D I haven't forgotten about the Randomness, so let's bring it, starting with the Random Pokemon of the Day:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d0/473Mamoswine.png
Mamoswine (Japanese: マンムー Mammoo) - The Twin Tusk Pokemon. A frozen Mamoswine was dug from ice dating back 10,000 years. This Pokemon has been around a long, long, long time. It flourished worldwide during the ice age but its population declined when the masses of ice began to dwindle.
Well, that's all for this blog. This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya everyone, and Happy Holidays! ;)
My 2-year TV.com Anniversary is Here... Time Sure has Flown By...
Well everyone, the day has come. Two years ago to this day I decided to join TV.com. Time sure has flown by since then... but I won't get into the whole story about how I joined this site. If you haven't read it yet and you're interested, feel free to search my blog archive for my 1-year anniversary blog.:P That blog entry should be the one to have it... I think.
Anyway, I'm going to keep this short; no randomness in this blog entry, which, like I said a week ago, will be my last until mid-December-ish, which is when I go into Winter Break. (Unless I feel like blogging before then and have the time to do so; don't get your hopes up though.) As much as TV.com has changed for the worst over the years, I still love this site for all my great friends here, and the discussions on the forums. I've even gotten onto GameSpot more, particularly thanks to fun events such as live Comic-Con coverage, and the All Time Greatest Game Villain competition (even though it's overrun by trolls).
Well, I'm going to bring closure to this blog now. A shout out to all of my awesome friends on TV.com and GameSpot.:D This has been pikastatic100, over & out! I'll see you all in a few months! ;)
My Sophomore Year Has Begun, & my Summer Time on TV.com has Ended...
I'm aware that I haven't blogged in about three weeks, but I was pretty busy, so I never got around to blogging until now. Anyway, with the exception of my 2-year anniversary blog that I'll be making in about a week, this will sadly be my last blog entry until Winter Break starts in mid-December. I'm going to be starting my sophomore year in high school tomorrow, and since I'm going to be taking much more challenging cIasses than last year (which translates into much more homework), I doubt I'll get a chance to blog until Winter Break. (I also got straight A's both semesters last year, so I'm still aiming for valedictorian-ship.) Just don't forget about me while I'm gone.:P I will, however, do my best to blog on September 13th, since that will be my 2-year anniversary on this site.
Also, I'll still try to hang around the forums a bit, especially since the Japan release of Pokemon Black and White is fast approaching, and Pokemon Best Wishes will be premiering in Japan soon. Not to mention that I'll be logging in at least once a week to attend to my editor duties. So yeah, I won't be completely gone.;)
And that's basically my farewell for three months.:P Now onto other topics! First, I'm happy to see that for the first time since November '09, new episodes of the Bleach dub are airing weekly again on Adult Swim.:D True, the dub has gone into a new filler arc, but since I don't watch the sub, at least it will be unseen material for me. Either way, I'm glad the dub is back, since the only Bleach I've been getting these days is the dragged-on arc in the manga right now. I do admit, though, it's finally getting intense.:o
In other news, like I said, Pokemon Black and White are coming to Japan soon. And by soon, I mean less than two weeks! :D I'm really looking forward to seeing what the whole of these games is all about. Not to mention that a new Pokemon saga will be airing in Japan soon, called Pokemon Best Wishes! This will take the anime to the new Isshu region, and it looks pretty exciting. I won't spoil anything for you, though.
Now then, time for the last blog randomness until Winter Break (I'm not planning on using my typical blog layout for my anniversary blog). Here's the Random Pokemon of the Day:
Dragonite
Dragonite (Japanese: カイリュー Kairyu) - The Dragon Pokemon. It is said that this Pokemon constantly flies over the immense seas in search of drowning people. This marine Pokemon has an impressive build that lets it freely fly over raging seas without trouble.
The Random Picture of the Day:
funny pictures-THE FORCE
As for the Random GIF of the Day, this one I saw on Nightmare-_-'s blog, and I just had to share it here.:D
And that's concludes this blog entry. This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya! ;)
Lost Comeback, Greatest Game Villain, & a Month until Pokemon BW!
Well, everyone, it's August 18th, which means that the Japan release of the first Generation V Pokemon games, Black and White, is just one month away (minus one day since it's August 19th in Japan).:D I'm really psyched for that day, as that is when all shall be revealed, and I can't wait even more until the U.S. release (of course :P ). By the time a month has passed, there will officially be more than 600 Pokemon in existence.:o
In other news, I've decided to get back into watching the extremely popular drama show, Lost. I stopped watching sometime around the beginning of the fourth season, but now that the show has ended, I'm restarting from Season 1 and watching all the way to the end.
For those of you who frequent GameSpot, you'll know that the All Time Greatest Game Villain competition is going on, in which 64 villains will be pitted against each other in a tournament of (what will most likely be) popularity. Right now, until August 26th, there is a bracket contest going on, in which the goal is to correctly predict the results of as many matchups as possible. Call me crazy, but I'm aiming to win this thing.:P It actually doesn't seems that difficult to correctly predict the results of these matchups, and besides, the grand prize is a good enough reason in itself:
- Sony 46" 3D HDTV
- Xbox 360
- Playstation 3 Slim
- Nintendo Wii
- Two games for each console
It's like every gamer's dream prize.:o I know that it's highly unlikely I'll actually win this thing, but hey, no harm trying.:P
Now then, time for the Random Pokemon of the Day:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a2/478Froslass.png
Froslass (Japanese: ユキメノコ Yukimenoko) - The Snow Land Pokemon. Legends in snowy regions say that a woman who was lost on an icy mountain was reborn as a Froslass.
Mario Kart Cheaters and Avatar! (+New Blog Feature: Random GIF of the Day!)
Well, after all this time hearing about how great James Cameron's movie, Avatar, was, I finally got to see it on DVD. It's true that I missed out on the 3D experience, but I must say that this movie was epic regardless. The special effects were beyond that of most movies I've seen, the acting was superb, and the story in general was gripping.:D What made it all the more awesome was the length: two hours and forty minutes. There are numerous great movies out there, but most of them are the standard hour-and-a-half to two-hour length, making it so things sometimes need to be wrapped up quicker than they should. With Avatar, however, the story line was dragged out to make it seem like everything was fully covered, and also adding more movie enjoyment time. Overall, it was a great movie and I would certainly watch a sequel if it was made (though I doubt it could surpass the first movie).
In other news, I've gotten back into playing Mario Kart Wii again, since I now have Wi-Fi for full enjoyment. I'm doing my best to work my way up in rank in the Wi-Fi races, but I'm finding it difficult to get myself out of the 7000s range.:? The fact that a couple of mid-race Wi-Fi disconnections landed me in last place with major (undeserved) point loss certainly didn't help.:x The main problem though is the numerous cheaters out there. I've seen a lot of racers go off ledges and a split second later somehow magically reappear on the track at full speed as if it never happened. There was even this one time that I was landed in the same group as a racer who was using some sort of cheat code to spam red shells by the dozen, making it extremely difficult to stay ahead of him/her. Then again, that's what you get when you're up against random people from across the world (or the region in this case).
Anyway, time for the Random Pokemon of the Day:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f3/351Castform.png
Castform (Japanese: ポワルン Powalen) - The Weather Pokemon. This Pokemon can change its cells, taking different forms based on the temperature and humidity.
The Random Picture of the Day:
Now then, it's been quite a long time since I've added new randomness to my blog, but I'm doing it now. In addition to the Random Picture of the Day, I've decided to include a Random GIF of the Day.:D So without further ado, here's the first one:
Turtle Escape Fail
And that's all for today, folks! This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya! ;)
Jackpot, Wi-Fi is Mine! Now Who's up for a Battle? :D (+OneManga Shutdown)
To think that I could have easily gotten my own Wi-Fi all this time and I didn't even know about it... I just recently found out that since I have a computer with a connection to the internet via Aircard, I can access Wi-Fi with both my DS (with a bit of settings configuration) and my Wii, without even needing a router whatsoever. Anyway, now that I have Wi-Fi, I can finally connect with my friends here on TV.com and GameSpot who have the same games.:D So if you have Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, or Mario Kart Wii and you want to battle/trade/race, feel free to PM me and we can exchange friend codes.:D
In other news, I'm sad to say that OneManga, a popular manga-reading site, has closed down to reading because of mangakas starting to really turn against manga scanlation sites.:( I know that I'm late in mentioning this, but I forgot when writing up my previous two blog entries. Anyway, OneManga has been the site I've gone to for years now to read the latest Naruto and Bleach chapters (Sleepyfans was a fantastic scanlator), and I doubt I'll ever find a manga site quite like it. I now read the latest manga from MangaStream, which now has the best quality scans out there that I know of (though the translations aren't as good as Sleepyfans') and even releases them a day earlier, but I'll miss OneManga - R.I.P.:(
Now then, time for the Random Pokemon of the Day:
Squirtle
Squirtle (Japanese: ゼニガメ Zenigame) - The Tiny Turtle Pokemon. The shell, which hardens soon after it is born, is resilient. If you poke it, it will bounce back out.
And that concludes this blog entry. This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya! ;)
Pikastatic's Karaoke Rockout! (Hear my Voice for the First Time!)
Hmm, I wonder how many people the title of this blog will attract here.:P Seriously, though, I didn't give this blog entry that title just for giggles; you're actually going to have a chance to hear my voice... at least, what my voice sounds like when I'm singing in Japanese.:lol: I'm posting this blog entry from GameSpot, as TV.com doesn't accept any sort of video codes.
Now then, I think I've hyped this blog up good enough.:P Just a couple of days ago, I finished the creation of my very first video. Big thanks goes to Colmillios for helping me get started.:D The video features an instrumental version of the fourth Naruto Shippuden opening (Closer, by Joe Inoue), with me singing karaoke in the background (I'm aware that my voice sounds a bit quiet in the video, but I was unable to make it any louder and make it blend well with the background music at the same time). To make it even more interesting, I added a little slideshow story to it. I'll say what it's about in a moment, but if you don't want major manga spoilers (and subbed anime spoilers, for that matter, if you only watch the dub), then don't read it, or watch the video, for the matter. Don't worry, though; if that's the case for you, I've created an alternate video with the same karaoke, but just one non-spoiling picture. Anyway, here's what the slideshow story is basically about:
***SPOILERS WARNING***
The slideshow starts with Naruto and Sasuke clashing at the Valley of the End in Part 1, then training, battling, and getting stronger throughout Part 2 until they ultimately meet up again and clash once more. While I'm still typing in a spoiler free-for-all zone, in the manga page showing Naruto and Sasuke about to clash, did anyone else notice in the bottom panel that Naruto is using Chidori, and Sasuke is using Rasengan? I didn't notice that until I put it in my video. What could have possibly been going through Kishimoto's mind then? :o
***END SPOILERS***
Now then, without further ado, here is my very first video. It took me hours to make, so I hope you like it.:D Please tell me what you think and give any feedback you might have. Oh yeah, and I put the disclaimer on the videos' pages, but I'll put it here in my blog too: I don't own anything in these videos, except for my singing voice.
[video=JXQ1kTCq5bMOuj7c]
If you want to post a comment on the video itself, you can do that by going to the video's page here (and signing in if you're on TV.com).
For those of you who don't want spoilers, here's the alternate:
[video=IXRlwjHx5bMOuj7d]
If you want to post a comment on the video itself, you can do that by going to the video's page here (and signing in if you're on TV.com).
Well, there you have it. I know that singing in Japanese doesn't really give someone the best idea of what they really sound like, but maybe you'll hear me talking normally someday... we'll see.:P Now then, time for the Random Pokemon of the Day:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/42/183Marill.png
Marill (Japanese: マリル Maril) - The Aqua Mouse Pokemon. The end of its tail serves as a buoy that keeps it from drowning, even in a vicious current.
Before moving on to the Random Picture of the Day, here are the results from last blog's kitteh-finding contest... *drumroll* And the winner is Speckledorfed! *hands over chocolate chip cookie* Speckledorfed, you gave the best description of the where the cat is in the picture, and what it looks like (and was the first to do so), which wins you the cookie and the blog mention.:D I noticed that a few of people gave a description of the cat saying that it was etched in the ground; and it's true, there is the shape of a cat in the ground. There's also a real cat in the picture, though, which is what the search was all about. And now for the reveal: the shape of a cat in the ground is surrounded in blue, and the real cat is circled in red. If you look closely, you can see the orange-backed, white-bellied kitteh, and make out its two little eyes.
Kitteh Revealed!
Here's the Random Picture of the Day:
And that's all for this blog entry. This has been pikastatic100, over & out! See ya! ;)
