@bluefox755 Yeah the lineup for Wii U is worse. But the lineup for 360/PS3 is crazy good. Between GTA V/Online and Dark Souls 2 it'll probably be Holiday 2014 before I remember there's a new gen.
He underestimates the power of the contemporary realism COD is based around. It's practically a sport now; we watch the NFL and play Madden, we watch the news and play COD. And we re-up each season.
Titanfall would take a bigger cut out of Halo than COD. And GTA Online will have an impact on COD too, along with the intro of a new gen - so I'd be welling to bet Ghosts doesn't do as well as previous COD releases. But a perfect storm is not going to hit COD every year.
I hope Titanfall is a hit, but it's not a COD killer any more than NBA 2K14 is the end of days for Madden. We'll probably see more innovations, and things like the integration of single and multi-player, but the talent and funding behind COD isn't going to dry up because Titanfall.
@ghost2046 I used to hate COD - I've never liked retreads and this gen has been full of them - COD, Ass Creed...even Skyrim wasn't different enough from Oblivion to avoid the feeling of been there done that (and New Vegas was a straight up carbon copy of FO3 with some new narrative, while FO3 itself was just Oblivion with guns). Add in the copycats and and it all becomes pretty boring.
But COD really is its own animal. It's more like a sport, where you re-up for the new season without any expectation of really significant change beyond new uniforms, a few trades and a splash of rookie features.
@Wrathesoul Me too. I'm going to continue to boycott EA games that I wasn't going to buy anyway. But I may occasionally make the odd exception for games that I want to play though.
MS had some great ideas, and I actually think the X1 is a really compelling system. I may end up with one sooner or later. Or not. I have a PC, and and I'll have -A- console. If I do eventually buy an X1, it'd probably be for an entertainment center, but I'll likely stick with PC there. For a gaming console, I'm looking at PS4.
The funny thing is that MS had some great ideas, but onerous anti-consumer implementation blew it. They could have allowed an offline mode (even if you had to connect every month or two for digital content validation) and kept people online with compelling connected features. They could have steered people towards digital content with 100% day 1 digital releases discounted at $5 or $10 below physical retail. They could have featured 'off' and 'audio only' modes for Kinect 2. They could have recognized the value of indie to customers instead of unnecessarily trying to scratch the backs of the mega-publishers.
But no, they had to let the 360's success go to their heads and think they could behave like a monopoly without consequence. If X1 suffers for it, that might be just as good for the future of gaming as the 360's success.
"you'll find events such as hot hatches or rally sport"
saw "rally sport" and thought maybe Forza was finally going to make a complete game. Looked it up and there's still no dirt. se la vi. still half a racing game.
