I don't play FFXI anymore but heres what you can do.

1. To obtain gil: Everything you get from your kills. Sell them at the auction house. There is one at Bastok Markets (pretty sure you chose bastok as your town) When you get 12 fire crystals or earth crystals. You can make 1-6k gil from each stack(depending on your server) Then you can use that gil to buy your weapons and armor at the auction house. Another way to making gil(the way i did it) Was to craft. You can take a 5k item and make it into a 25k item with not much effort. As long as you get the crafting skill. If you want crafting tips on how to get started. Don't bother with the quests. They are a waste of time. Not really any good rewards.

At level 10 you can start seeking party. And you can start exping with other people your level in areas like Valkurm Dunes. There are other areas. But you can find more info on the sites i gave you.

You won't be finding any "cool" monsters for a while sadly. Final fantasy XI reuses alot of the same monsters til you get to endgame. And thats when the game truly begins.

Oh and another thing. Be sure to eat food. It will make some not want to party with you a 2nd time just for not doing that.

Just rememebered something, there was 2 PCI-E slots on top of the graphics card. i put 1 in, should i have put 2 in from the power suply?
