hello all

as some of you that have helped me in the past know i am upgrading my current parts to later parts (will include later in post)

i have a couple questions about upgrading custom PCs since this is my first upgrade (not first build)

1. i am replacing everything but the case and hard drives (GPU,CPU,PSU,Mobo,RAM). when upgrading do i simply swap out all parts and reboot my computer as if nothing happened?

2. since i am switching the mobo do i need to reinstall windows?

3. before i upgrade should i uninstall all my old drivers?

4. do i need to format my hard drives and lose all my data? or can that carry over like a memory card on a console would when you swap it from console to console?

This is my first upgrade so any help woud be appreciated.

Also, like i said above, here are the parts i will be upgrading/complete setup after upgrade:

-Thermaltake Kandalf full ATX tower case

-2 160gb seagate hdd's

-PNY NVIDIA 8800GTX OC 768mb

-OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply

-CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit

-ASUS P5E ATX Intel Motherboard

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor

-ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink

thanks to those who respond

eh ya im pretty sure i want the GTX. the only reason being is that the good GTs(brand, core speed, etc.) are just so hard to find. newegg is alwayssss out. ill see if they have any by the time i purchase but in the mean time the GTX is where im set, not to mention i can fit it into my budget and it is no doubt more powerful than the GT(even though its only a little bit).

so ya unless someone has good GTs in stock, im sticking with the GTX

well the OCZ is cheaper than the corsair 620W so why not get that extra boost of power. and im the zalman 9700 is too expensive compared to the 9500 so im gunna stick with that. and as for EVGA exchange, i doubt the 9000s will be coming out within 3 months of getting the GTX and i doubt that i would even hear about it since i know that the second i get my new setup going ill probbaly be too busy playing my new games on maxed settings to see that it came out haha. and i do have a good case its a full tower thermaltake kandalf. has plentyyyyyy of space.

alright guys i got a sort of new revised list. the only things that havebeen changed really is the mobo and GPU:

-PNY NVIDIA 8800GTX OC 768mb

-CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply

-CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit

-ASUS P5E ATX Intel Motherboard

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor (FSB 1066mhz)

-ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink

only real changes is the mobo and the brand of the 8800.

as for the geforce 9 series, i really dont want to wait till Q2 2008. im ready and pumped to get my system upgraded by either the end of december or the very beginning of january at most. all i need is a system that is future proof on the majority of games (going to exclude crysis from this as ive accepted i wont be able to get all very high at decent frames lol). and concerning the resolution being better with an 8800gt, that may be true but i have a feeling im going to end up upgrading my monitor soon after all my upgrades are done to possibly a 22" so why not have the power of the GTX u know? lol

also thinking about the OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply since it is about $40 cheaper. does anybody know if this is a good PSU?

well since i only have a 19" monitor and im not CRAZY about high resolutions, probably a lower resolution such as 1280x1024. ive always played with this res and since it is the native resolution on this monitor it looks just fine for me. id say until i get a larger monitor ill stick with 1280x1024 (dont have enough in my budget to get a new monitor unfortunately since these parts im getting are already sorta stretching it lol)

hey guys just wondering if anyone here knows when the new geforce 9 series of cards are coming out? does anybody know how much they will be going for?

Also, I am planning on upgrading all my parts soon to these specs:

-EVGA NVIDIA 8800GTX Superclocked 768mb

-CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 620W Power Supply

-CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit

-ASUS P5K-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor (FSB 1066mhz)

-ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink

It will be running on a 32-bit version of XP (i know its old but im not going to be upgrading until vista gets all the bugs worked out and is stable)

how should this setup perform with most games today? im talkin crysis, bioshock, COD4, UTIII, etc. etc. keep in mind this is not a machine built exclusively for crysis.

Thanks to those who respond

lol doesnt paul technically die? i remember when i played he either dies against your will or you have the option to save him? or he gets his body shut down by walter simons or sumthing like that i forget.

another cool idea might be a couple events after deus ex 1, conspiracy groups and political groups start heating up and eventualy it explodes into total anarchy of the world and a man-made apocolypse type effect where there is no more government, disease is spreading like wild fire, organic forms of life are mutated due to disease and just general degredation of DNA, etc. i duno, kind of a MASSIVE stretch from the original but i suppose it would make for some cool gameplay. maybe to keep that cyberpunk and dark city feel there are massive city/compounds run by any remaining forces that call themselves a government that contain remaining living humans and you must hack into these cities and tear down their tyranical rule. this would make for some really nciely detailed dark, gloomy, depressing cities. this would keep any monsters people enjoyed from the first (mutation effect) and keep the cyber punk feel (hack into large compounds), etc.

once again that all came straight from my ass lol i was rambling so sorry if i cut out short on any details i dont know where i was going with it lol

lol i didnt mean pick up when paul was necessarily skilled. i meant follow him from the beginning of his career to see how he became this NSF agent while still working for UNATCO. it would make for some interesting misions revealing hidden information about important characters in the first deus ex therefore further expanding upon hidden ordeals. if you could be paul hacking into UNATCO agents computers, and their base, etc.

you know what would be cool is a split storyline where you have "flashback" missions as paul where certain information about important characters and places are revealed and then present day missions where they tie into that... i duno im just speaking out of my ass right now im tired and i really dont know what im saying lol

disregard my post if you want haha

hey guys sorry if somebody already said this i didnt feel like reading every post but i think a cool story to follow would be Paul Denton's story of how he got involved with the NSF and other conspiracy groups through his point of view. I really liked everything about the first Deus Ex and i would not change much except maybe updating the engine a little. Maybe a remake of Deus Ex 1 with the newest unreal engine since it was originally created on the first unreal engine and an advanced physics engine (possibly cryengine?).

other than those suggestions a cool story could be something tieing into todays current events (Bush, conflict in Middle East, Europe's immigration problems, the conspiracy on 9/11 being the work of the US government, and of course the old conspiracies such as iluminati again would be great), except a few years into the future so that any catastrophic events already took place which could build for an interesting plot

of course new weapons and upgrades and augmentations, including the old ones that were the most favored, would make for some great gameplay.
