eh i duno its quicker and hassle free to just copy over all the contents you know. that way i can get everything i want instead of accidently forgetting something.
but back to my directions i listed above i need to know if that would work fine?
hey guys im about to order some parts to upgrade my comp and amongst those parts will be a new mobo so i know i will be required to format my drives. my question though is do i need to format every drive?
i have two separate hard drives. one drive is drive E: which is one entire drive and the other is partitioned into drive C: for windows and drive D: for games. i was wondering if i could copy over the contents of drive D: and some files such as music to the drive with drive E: so that i dont lose any data. when i copy it over i wouldnt have the E: drive with now moved contents plugged to the mobo. then after formatting drive C: i would reinstall windows on it and then after all is well and runs i would hook up the second hard drive with all my moved data and then place it back on C:.
would that work so i dont lose all my data? sorry for the longgggg explanation but that is really the only way i can explain it lol
in case anyone was wondering these are the parts i will be upgrading to:
-EVGA 8800GT SSC edition 512mb
-OCZ 700W PSU
-Corsair dominator 2gb of 1066mhz RAM (2x1gb)
-Asus P5E X38 Intel mobo
-Intel Q6600 Quad core 2.4ghz CPU (going to OC to 3.0-3.2Ghz)
-Zalman 9500 CPU fan
thanks to all that respond :)
im not going to SLi i know that for a fact.
and i had an EVGA as my selection before but since i switched to a better mobo which is more expensive the PNY fit my budget better and PNY is a good brand. i am using a 6800GT from PNY right now and i havent had one single problem with it in the 2 years ive had it.
i suppose i would go with an 8800GT but once again they are just too hard to find. i suppose when the time comes to order, if there are any in stock, ill get it but if not it has to be to GTX
oh lame lol i was hoping i didnt have to format my drives.
heres another question:
one of my drives is partitioned into the C: drive for windows files and the other half to D: drive for game files. could i copy over the contents of the D: drive to my second drive (E:) since it has enough space and then just format the first drive to reinstall windows then after that is running simply hook up the second drive that now contains D: and E: and it will be recognized? lol sorry if its confusing
hey guys sorry to interject but quick question relating to RAM...
im going to be upgrading my comp soon and i own 1gb of kingston RAM (2x512mb) and i believe it is DDR2 800MHz. in my upgrade im going to be buying corsair dominator RAM 2gb(2x1gb) with a speed of 1066MHz. will i be able to run all of that RAM to get 3gb even though they are different speeds(800 and 1066)? just wondering if i could do this and get a performance boost instead of selling the 1gb kingston sticks
once again sorry to have butt into this conversation but i figured it was on the same topic :)
