what if i want to run dual monitors? do i need multiple graphics cards?

The answer to that question depends on the resolution you'll be running at and what kind of performance you want for games, but it's not necessary to have a card for each monitor.

To start, an i7 is usually considered overkill for gaming.

1. Since you only plan to play on 1 screen (I'm assuming it's 1080p since it's a TV) you will only need 1 card. The GTX 770 or GTX 970 is a good all around card price vs. performance. You could go for the 980 if you have the money, but that seems overkill for you IMO.

2. A good liquid cooling system will be quieter and possibly allow you to overclock further. It depends on the cooling system though.

3. A descent monitor will have better refresh rates and less input lag than most TVs. Your TV can certainly work fine for now though. You might not even notice a difference.

4 8GBs for now, 16GBs to "futureproof"

5. x99 is for a different set of CPUs (Haswell-E) and DDR4 RAM. It's brand new and costs quite a bit more for the motherboard, CPU, and RAM.

6. Essentially SLI and Crossfire (Xfire) are the terms used by Nvidia and AMD respectively for using more than one of the same graphics card in a system work together.

It was the F-ing cable!

Still not sure why it would work for the laptop, but anywho. I pulled up the carpet, pulled out the old cable and saw the fray that was probably causing the issue, ran the new cable. and now everything is good. What a pain in the ass.

@Qwikstreet: Well, as I look at the games that I would normally choose (Tomb Raider, Hitman, Sleeping Dogs), I realized you can probably get them fairly cheap on Steam or some other game download site. What I would probably do is choose games that are more expensive but I have some interest in.

Connect an Ethernet cable from one computer to another (computer to computer) , try to transfer data , if it works correctly then the modem/router is the problem.

Note:Network handling in Windows Vista and newer is quite easy , if you are using older version , Google How to create networks on the specific OS.

So i tried connecting my laptop to the desktop via another ethernet cable. The desktop recognized the connection but I wasn't able to figure out how to easily transfer any files as the desktop in Win7 and the laptop is Win8. Anyways, this still seems like good news because the desktop at least saw that it was connected. Now I'm starting to think the regular ethernet cable I use to the desktop is no good, even though every time I hook it up to the laptop it works fine.

@MlauTheDaft I'm getting the "nothing connected to ethernet port" error. I'm not sure how it could be an issue with my service or the modem or router as it seems to be working fine for everything else in the household.

For the past few days I've been trying to troubleshoot my onboard ethernet port not recognizing the cable that's plugged in. I've done a reset of my modem and router, although the cable is now plugged directly into the modem. I made sure the ethernet cable is still good. I checked that the driver was installed. Removed the driver and reinstalled it. The device is recognized, but still doesn't recognize the cable/signal. I've cleared CMOS and updated the BIOS.

Trying to avoid RMAing the board, I installed a PCIE LAN card. Everything for the card is working, but again it also eventually stopped responding.

The weirdest part is that during the whole process the internet has come back now and then. No idea why and I obviously can't recreate it. I have no idea what could be effecting both the onboard and the card. I'm very frustrated and looking for any other options before I have to tear down the system and send it back for a replacement.

@thehig1: I've been using the M65 for a while. I don't ever use the sniper button, but I wanted blue, not red so... The mouse is awesome. Great build quality and fairly comfortable. I have medium sized hands and use a palm grip. It's a bit bigger than I was used to, but aside from that and issues with the software it's a great mouse.

That seems low. I played the first part of the Singapore level up until the point where you leave the beach area. I got as high as 88 while on the water and lowest was maybe 51 on Ultra at 1920 x 1080. I'm using a overclocked 770 and 3570K overclocked to 4.2 with 8GBs of RAM. Maybe try the same scenario and see if you get similar or better results. Perhaps it was just the particular level you were on.

There is no official wireless support for the One controllers yet, just wired. They stated they are working on it, but I don't think it is one of their priorities. I would just go with the one you prefer. Like you said, they aren't that different.
