@Alkpaz - My comments make one question the ESA stats? I think my comments confirm them more than denounce them.

Of course these stats don't mention the percentage of "M" rated games that have parents at the time of purchase. but combining the two stats and assuming they correlate - that means 24% of the time parents know they are getting their kids (or themselves I assume) an "M" rated game and probably don't know the content of it.

But those stats are so nebulous who knows how they are calculated.

@Chaos_Dante_456 I downloaded angry birds rio when it was free too... I still haven't played it. Times downloaded is the digital equivalent of 'copies shipped' - no one should care.

I would chime in and say - good job developers! but I don't even know if they have broke even yet on the dev costs...

@Alkpaz Correct, which is why I didn't say doom had an "M" - people saw it as violent sure, but it was nothing like an "M" rated game of today that usually has all the other content that a typical "R" movie has.

People think: "'M' = Doom, I played doom and I turned out okay, I'll get this "M" game for my kid." Then they actually watch their kids play it and realize this stuff sure ain't Doom. Well, the ones that actually watch their kids... most still don't realize what "M" even means and just keep buying it.

I have had quite a few talks with people I work with that are just now realizing the "M" on the box isn't what Doom was in the 90's. Once people realize that "M" on the box really means "R" (or worse) in movie terms this problem clears up right away.

Oh you mean GTA has all this language, explicit content and such in it?

@StarkJJ Shunning only works if the person/entity being shunned cares. With EA, not buying their stuff, and attacking it at any opportunity is a much better strategy.

Sweet the Dead Space annual roster update is here and now I can buy all the stuff instead of earning it! This is awesome, just like the golf games - /sarcasm

Cool, lots of downloads - how much money did they get for each one? Oh it is free? I think they need a better statistic to measure success here.

Jim Matheson is a democrat... *sigh gamespot*.

Just because he is from Utah, doesn't make him a republican... even though our democrats are still more Red than most other states republicans.

How about making it legally binding to buy these titles with intent to distribute to minors? What is the point of any of this if the parents are still going to buy GTA and hand it to their 12 year old? Pointless, that's all it is.

If this would have been done before the Wii U was finished we would have seen the Wii U herald in the next gen of multiplayer gaming. Allowing the Wii U to act as a server and 3DS's act as tablets that take the game, and processing power to the next level. Instead we got a Wii U that has a dumb-terminal (sorry, computer speak from the 70's) and no way to expand them out to play 4 player + games as local-multiplayer.

I like the move and hope they find a good way to merge more of this together.
