I have tried to choose parts for a rig in another thread, it was wordy and confusing though. What would people suggest though for a build of $1000 budget (cutoff of up to $1500) for architecture student (rendering 3d stuff and 2d), I chose so far Intel Core i7-870 Lynnfield 2.93GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor BX80605I7870 and gtx 460 1gb (in six months i will get another gtx for sli and more memory, would like to start with at least 6gb)

okay how much are you willing to spend.

keep in mind that your want for a secure computer will probably cost you $8 all by itself. as locking cases dont exist anymore but you can get hard drives that are removeable via keys which imo is just amazing :P

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817119503. when your done at work remove the hard drive.. take it home with you and keep it safe.. make good.

So my Budget increased to $1000 with a cutoff of $1500 and I tried to come up with my own build and put a post out. What would you suggest at this money level.

Here's my build wishlist. I already replaced a couple things. I can choose the Pwr supply last. I think there are better memory options if there are suggestions. Motherboard?CPU Fan? Things Look Compatable? https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=14286652

I'm at the stage of about to order parts and want some advice on if this is a good build, parts that I should replace for cheaper for same or better performance, if it will run cool enough, ideas on any better products welcome....most important COMPATABILITY. $1500 is about the cuttoff, obviously better to go less wihtout compromising performance, if I can do $1000 thatd be great CPU - 2.93-GHz Core i7-870 OR 2.8-GHz Core i7-860 - $289.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115213&cm_re=2.93-GHz_Core_i7-870-_-19-115-213-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115214&cm_re=2.8-GHz_Core_i7-860-_-19-115-214-_-Product (the first is faster but on NEWegg theres only 14 reviews compared to the second which has great reviews and they are same price) MOBO -SUS SABERTOOTH 55i LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - $139.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131601 (this I randomly picked since I saw it in a combo deal with the CPU I chose) MEMORY ??? (suggestions..want 8GB) - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL - $94.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 (again suggested in the combo. I would like at least 8GB memory in the system though and the MOBO selected only has 4 slots, is there cheaper/good different option to start off with 2- 4gb sticks or something of the sort)Is there better than dual chhannel. I guess I want to start with 8gb but plan it so in a year can double that without completely replacing what I have HDD - Western Digital Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - $49.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218 (Pretty good deal?) PS - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - $69.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005 (Is 650 watt enough now, and if I want to expand to SLI later and more RAm later? Seems like a good and quiet supply but ???) CASE - AZZA Solano 1000 Black/Black Japanese SECC Steel/Metal mesh in front ATX Full Tower Computer Case - $59.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811517004 DVD drive - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM - $21.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204 TOTAL...no graphics card (with less memory and lower wattage) - $747 Also enough cooling, Need a heatsink fan for the processor?? Will the onboard LAN and audio be sufficient (more concerned about the LAN) Graphics Card - I have been looking at the gtx460, HD5770, Nvidia GeForce GTS 250, a good one is really key for my work, and in 6 months Id like to buy another to get SLI running. I have room to spend on a good card but I dont want to bottle neck it either. I dont know wheather to go nvidea or raddon...I read there might be some iffy SLI issues compared to crossfire? EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $320 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130550 Im concerned that the reviews seem to say its loud and there are software issues though, Id like all reiable parts to not have to deal and tune things all the time. Also I dont know why its not ranked in the gamespot forum ranking of cards, ive seen these ranked highly elsewhere Please make suggestions and things I should change, Im completley open I just need to get this all worked out

Thanks! As i'm shopping this will help, maybe i'll even end up doing it, i'm going to run my numbers and see if I can incresae my budget in the next few days. One specific question...the MOBO says it compatible with i5 and i7 but doesnt list i3. I guess I don't know much about the processors, you mentioned the intel is good, so what would have more cores do for me instead? Also you said this isn't the best system (obviously since Im on a budget), but will i suffer for limiting myself to this budget? How much would I have to spend to have a system thats not overkill and pricy...but very robust and will feel the power. I guess where would you balance performace and money, and maybe some example that would really get the job done.

I'm an architecture/design student so need a new rig with similar requirements of gamers (I'll be playing games also). A computer with fast graphics capabilities would make my life much better, and if I could (i've lived without since my laptop sucks) It'd be great to have 2 monitors and be able to use a couple programs at once. My main priority is the videocard/s and ddr3, I don't care about other features so long as the system runs smoothly. (although any advice on a case/way to lock it would be useful as it will be in a studio). I've been reading alot of the threads for advice on new systems... I am OPEN to BUILDING (i made one years ago), but I don't have time to reasearch all the ins and outs of what is compatable and what will perform better so either an advice shopping list, or a prebuild system is what I need (I've been looking at ibuypower and ava direct as they seem the most affordable, but im wary of reliability). Graphic performance is my priority, but I am a student so value and reasonable $ is also key. I don't care if its teribly ugly I'd rather save money. I don't know enough about what to put the money into to get the most for it, but it'd be ideal if you can suggest where I can skimp and get cheapers parts, but then put more money towards the graphics card for example (clearly they have to support each other). One random prebuild I've been looking at is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227274&cm_re=83-227-_-83-227-274-_-Product I'd love to be able to room for getting a second graphics card later on (maybe) and RAM expansion later, Im open to advice on how many gb and speeds ect. Is avadirect and or ibuypower trustworhty or do they use generic parts thats gonna crap out Ive been looking at the $700 range for a budget, however if I'm going to gain a huge amount of performance and years out of the sytem by going up to $900 that is possible, or if I will only loose a little by going down in price thats good
