Hey GS,

I've decided I might be upgrading my system some time soon. Here's what I'm looking at right now:

  • Upgrading my ASUS M3A79-T to an ASUS M4A89GTD PRO
  • Upgrading my AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition (2.6ghz stock, 3.0ghz OC) to a Phenom II Deneb 3.4 ghz (which i can probably get up to 3.8 or 4.0 OC)
  • Upgrading my existing 2x2gb sticks of DDR2 1066 RAM to 2x2gb DDR3 2000 G.skill Trident RAM

I'm not sure wether to get these ($490.96 after shipping and tax) or wait for something else.

As a quick sidenote, I currently have a Radeon HD 4870 1gb card and I'm not sure wether I should upgrade that as well. Any tips?

EDIT: I also need a good aftermarket heatsink, I've got a ZALMAN CNPS9700 that I'm not sure will work with my new CPU/mobo and I know that I'm going to be OCing.

It's a dreaded thing called being a fanboy. They can't get past the fact that they are the nerds here and their skills will never end up paying off. While gaming, I have learned to do a lot of things, just for the sake of being able to continue gaming. The amount of time I spend on the computer made me really good at using it and now I can do a lot of things most people I know can't. Your friends on the other hand will know how to shoot people with a white piece of plastic. While you play less than them, gain skills that might benifit you in the future, and talk to competent people online, they play video games on a piece of junk against a team of 3 year olds.

Hey GS,

Here's my problem. Whenever I want to play MW2, I have to restart Steam. I've tried running DXSETUP from the MW2 folder and that did nothing. Basically, I can only play MW2 once per launch of Steam.

I've tried restarting the computer. I've tried running Steam in compatability mode for Vista/XP. I've tried running the game in safe mode. Nothing seems to work except restarting Steam.

I don't mean to be a nitpicker, but does anyone have a recommended fix for this? I've tried everything I can think of and I really want to fix this problem.

First, I want to try everything I can WITHOUT voiding warranty. In case I can get a proof of purchase, I want to be able to send it in.

Hey GS,

So here's my story. Back in November or December last year, my X360 finally got the dreaded RRoD. I kept forgetting to call M$ and I finally remembered a couple days ago. I called them up to ask about the warrenty and surprise surprise, they think I bought the 360 in January '07 and I am therefore out of the 3 year RRoD warranty. I either live with no 360 or pay $100 to get it fixed. What angers me is that I bought this 360 in June '07 as it was a present for my birthday, but I have no proof of purchase so they won't let me get it fixed.

With nothing to lose, I figured I would try the towel trick since it doesn't void the warranty, in case I happened to find a proof of purchase. I wrapped up my 360 and let it bake for 25 minutes. After I took it out, I let it cool and started playing. At first, it froze up every second game I played from CoD6. I was fine with that, but I decided to try and fix it. One hard drive maintenance later and the problem was solved. I played for a couple of hours with no freezes, and as soon as I turned it off and came back later that day, the problems started again.

Now, I'm not sure exactly what to do. The 360 won't even play a single round now before freezing. Another hard drive maintenance did absolutely nothing for the problem, although removing the hard drive allowed me to at least boot in to the game, even though I couldn't actually play a round on LIVE.

To fix this problem, what should I do? Could it be a heat problem that an intercooler could solve, or a hard drive problem that a new HDD would fix? Or is my 360 totally gone and I should just save up and grab a new one later on. What do you guys think?

PS. I have a first-gen Xbox 360 Pro. It's got a 20gb hard drive and no HDMI output. MFR date is 03-03-2006.

...maybe

i dont think they promote criminal behavior, but rather provide a safe environment to do things in that you can't normally do in the real world

for example, i love driving cars into things/people and off all kinds of ramps and things. do i do it in real life? no, that's what GTA IV is for.

you get to do almost anything you want, with your friends if its got multiplayer, and you can die and respawn in seconds =D

it's what keeps many gamers sane.

[QUOTE="rakan959"]

women are always complaining about women's rights, that they should be treated equal to men

at the same time, when it comes to etiquette, they should be treated specially, respected, chairs pulled out, all that kind of stuff

i think it's just hypocritical that this happens and personally, i'm more for equality.

shinian

Generalization at its finest:P Not all women are like that.

not talking about all women, it's just that you see women everywhere (again, not all women) talking about equality, job oppertunities, and things like that, but then you have them also demanding respect

i say if they want to be equal, i'll treat them like another male: leave them alone and let them do everything on their own

if you're equal, you shouldn't need someone to pull out your chair for you, you should be able to do it yourself, after all you're equal aren't you?

it's a best of both worlds thing and i really dislike it
