I beat Crackdown 2 yesterday. Wow. What a disappointing game. Within the first few minutes you learn that you need to activate 3 absorption units that absorb sunlight energy, after which you activate a beacon that destroys freaks in the area. Sounds good right? WRONG. After activating the beacon, you find out that you need to repeat the same process. 8 more times. 6 hours and 8 beacons later, there's finally a change-of-pace mission I won't talk about so that the spoilers remain minor. Then, the final mission, which takes about as long as a beacon mission, and the game is over and in sandbox mode.

Crackdown 2 is just a DLC game. The story is the same half-hour mission duplicated 9 times with slightly harder enemies each time, with maybe an hour of extra content at the end. The plot is just stupid, not mentioning anything about Crackdown 1, even though it continues 10 years after where Crackdown 1 left off.

Sandbox mode is alright. Fun to play, fun to skill up, fun to kill Freaks, but it doesn't make the game worth it. What looked like a good game on the surface turned out to be a glorified sandbox that reused EXACTLY the same islands as Crackdown 1 with a thin plot and greedy developers looking to profit from DLC that should have already been included in the game.

Thoughts?

They don't have built in wifi, but you can buy an external adapter for them for 100 bucks pretty much anywhere. Honestly, you're better off with the slim. The hard drive is more than twice as big and it has wifi built in saving you a hundred bucks, although it doesn't come with any games. So far I'm loving it, I have my entire game library installed to the hard drive and I still have about 180 gb free, so everything is much easier, and it really is whisper quiet. The only time I can hear it is if I'm within 1 foot of it and there's NO other background noise. No talking, no TV, no nothing.

Halo 3 - 4 player co-op is fun

TF2 - Multiple classes, some like Medic made just to help team mates

Modern Warfare 2 - Special Ops are really tough solo, with a lot being too time consumingly hard to complete on veteran mode alone.

A lot of these games have no penalties when playing co-op, meaning difficulty and the number of enemies present doesn't change with increased players, so it's really a lot easier taking on a set number of enemies with 4 times the firepower.

Forza 3 + ODST, but honestly I would wait. With the Reach release approaching you can bet that there's goign to be some sort of bundle or deal with a slim 250gb or slim with different colors/changed features and Halo Reach. Reach looks like easily the best game that's going to be released this holiday season, so I would just wait.

Please don't buy games just for achievements. Don't become an achievement whore. Play games for fun, not a useless score.

Logan1616

It's not really your place to decide what he should do. Almost everyone has wanted achievements at one time or another, I don't know anyone who hasn't gone out of their way to grab that extra 10 gamerscore achievement on the side. Achievements provide fun when the actual game is over, and they also someone represent a player's skill. More gamerscore means that the person has been playing games on Xbox for a longer time, either buying lots of games or just going the extra mile in each game getting achievements. Some people, like you, find the score useless, and others see it as a public ranking of their ability to game and find it fun to get achievements.

Either way, let him do what he wants, it's not your place to decide what is and isn't fun for him.

I got most of my friends from people who I know irl, but a lot of times you'll pick up friends just playing multiplayer. There are those who are just plain irritating and you will never want to speak to them again, and then there are those who are really nice and end up becoming long time friends of yours. Just be sure to check out how they play first if you want to play with them, you don't want to be held back by a nice person that plays like a 4 year old ;)

Current gen of consoles has plenty of time left to drop new releases of awesome games. It's safe to say that if you get a PS3 now, not only will you have the current top sellers to play, but i estimate 4 or 5 new hits between now and the next gen. By hits, I don't mean just any game with a score over 80, I mean games like Killzone and Uncharted that really push the edge in terms of gameplay and graphics. Buying one now will provide a lot of enjoyment before the next generation of consoles comes out, even if you only get a few of the best games on PS3.

PC = better graphics almost all the time.

Consoles = funner to play.

PCs are a pain to play on because you need to be sitting at the computer in front of a keyboard. It hurts your eyes more when playing for longer periods of time that close to the screen and you can't really lay down because let's face it, unless you've got a ton of money, laptop gaming is a joke. Consoles are cheaper and more affordable than PCs, with an arguably more active online community and a much smaller community of cheaters and hackers. While there are those that mod their consoles, it is much harder to hack or cheat on a console than on PC, and there are little to no aimbotters on console (I've never EVER seen someone use an aimbot on a console and I've been console gaming for a long time).

On the flip side, PCs have a higher resolution since consoles don't support more than 1080p, as well as better graphics when you have better computer hardware. Lots of games are much more fun to play on PC than on consoles, such as Dragon's Age: Origins, which had a birds eye view that made playing on the PC much superior to consoles. Also, digital distribution systems like Steam that make it easy to take your games with you to different computers make PC gaming better than consoles.

Now getting back to the topic, the next generation of consoles will likely have graphics that are far better than the current consoles, meeting or exceeding those seen in games running on computers at maximum graphics settings. Also, resolution would likely improve, as with a gap between generations this big leaving 5+ years remaining until the next console release, we may be seeing resolutions like 1200p or higher become the dominant resolutions for high defenition televisions and monitors.

These are only my opinions, but I think that they create a pretty accurate model of what may be happening within the next few years. Within this generation, we may start to see some better optimization in games, meaning that we will have nicer graphics with stable frame rates without even needing to advance to the next gen of consoles, though honestly these differences will likely bvery small, if even noticible. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't leave out PC graphics, since those will likely improve greatly before the next generation, where we may be looking at graphics cards with 4 GPUs or more and memory as large as 6-8 gb in a single card.
