Daft Punk perform at 50th Grammy Awards!

French dance legends Daft Punk chose to make their first ever TV appearance at the 50th Grammy Awards last night at the Staples Center in LA, teaming up with Kanye West to perform Stronger, based on their 2001 hit Harder Better Faster Stronger. The video (below) is pretty cool. Oh, and I want those glasses Kanye! You keep Wacko's jacket though.

I managed to see Daft Punk in December in Perth for their Alive 2007 tour just before moving to London and their live act would have to rank as one of the best I've ever seen ... especially considering the lighting extravaganza which is nothing short of amazing (oh and of course the pyramid).

Equally cool is Alive 2007, which is the CD of their tour (recorded at the second show of the tour in Bercy, Paris on June 14, 2007) and also a top favourite of mine at the moment. If you like dance music you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy and have a spin!

Assassin's Creed on sale at Zavvi this weekend

Still haven't picked up a copy of Assassin's Creed? For those that weren't lucky enought to get one in your Christmas stocking, it's definately worth a play, being one of the best games of 2007.

Thankfully for those of you who did miss out, you can pop into a Zavvi store (or order online) this weekend and pick it up on Xbox 360 or PS3 for £24, down from the regular price of £49.99!

Check out Zavvi's Web site for more details.

Wayne Rooney is Bully?

I recently had the chance to check out a demonstration of Bully: Scholarship Edition at Rockstar's London pad.

The new edition, coming to both Xbox 360 and Wii, has extra single and multiplayer elements and has a new polish to the graphics and sound. As you'd expect, the Wii Remote can be used to interact with the game in some interesting new ways (especially if you're a fan of Wii Sports Boxing). If you get a moment, check out the impressions I've written up.

While watching the preview I suddenly realised that Bully's main character, Jimmy Hopkins, looks a lot like someone who I've always thought looks like a bit of a bully: Manchester United player Wayne Rooney.

Is this just a coincidence or are the developers trying to tell us something?

GAME takes orders for Duke Nukem Forever

The guys over at GAME must be a pretty optimistic bunch ... they're taking pre-orders for Duke Nukem Forever. While there's no release date listed on the site (no suprises there) they've given it a RRP of £34.99. Now go get some (or not)!

Developer 3D Realms recently released a new teaser for Duke Nukem Forever, perhaps hoping to alleviate the fears of fans who have been waiting Forever for the game to be released (sorry, lame I know).

3D Realms Joe Siegler said on the trailer's YouTube page that a fullblown new trailer is also in the works.

I come from a land Down Under

Hi all, just a quick post to say G'Day on my first day at GameSpot UK!

The name is Luke Anderson (not to be confused with Lark Anderson) and I hail from CNET Networks' Sydney office where I worked on our sister publication ZDNet Australia. While one can't beat the climate and Down Under way of life, in the end I gave in to the chance to work at GameSpot and experience the European life.

Since celebrating Christmas in the balmy Perth summer, I'm gradually becoming acclimatised to the frigid cold of an English winter (....well it might take longer than a few days!)

I was fortunate enough to have an extended break over Christmas and managed to play some new games during that time, including Super Mario Galaxy, Orange Box, Guitar Hero III, Bioshock, Halo 3 and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga.

I've also picked up a copy of Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4 to add to my stockpile, but haven't had a chance to get stuck into them yet (all of which should keep me busy for a bit ... hopefully until GTAIV is finally released).

On GameSpot I'll be tackling a range of content including previews, features, news, video, blogs, and, of course, the UK podcast (starting with a cameo on this week's episode ... be sure to tune in!).

Enjoy the rest of the holiday period (if you're not back at work already). Finally, I thought I'd finish with a question: What's been your favourite game this Christmas?

PS3 selling for AU$598

Aussie retailer Big W has slashed the price of its 40GB PlayStation 3 consoles and is currently selling them at a price of AU$598 (US$525, £257) which is well below retail cost and the local RRP of AU$699.95.

Competing mass merchant store, K-Mart, is also reportedly selling PS3s for the same price. Meanwhile, JB Hi-Fi stores are doing a deal for AU$688 with 3 Blu-Ray movies thrown in.

Grand Theft Auto IV box art unveiled

Rockstar has unveiled the box art for GTAIV and announced a new trailed called "Move up, ladies" which will be live next Thursday (6th December) at 3:00pm (US EST) on Rockstar's Web site.

Rockstar also showed off an 'unveiling' video which shows a series of artists creating the box art using time lapse. Check it out here.

AU Super Mario Galaxy street date broken

Aussie retailers have broken the street date for Super Mario Galaxy. I picked up a copy at my local JB Hi-Fi store today for $79 and it included a sweet hardback Prima strategy guide valued at US$29.99.

Customers who preordered the game as well as those who buy a copy today or tomorrow get the guide for free!

Christmas Wish List

With Christmas fast approaching I've narrowed down my must have purchases this holiday season. However, whether I buy them or score them as presents is yet to be decided!

  • Super Mario Galaxy -- It's Mario. On the Wii. With a bee suit!
  • Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (X360) -- Star Wars meets Lego. What could be better than that?
  • Call of Duty 4 (X360) -- Infinity Ward brings the ever popular franchise to the modern battlefield.
  • Assassin's Creed (X360) -- Looks to be an amazing adventure and one of the best of the year.
  • Mass Effect (X360) -- See above. And it's done by BioWare which adds some credence (sorry, that was lame I admit).
  • Rock Band (X360) -- What could be better than Guitar Hero? Guitar + dtums + vocals! Can't wait to try that out.

I also picked up a copies of Guitar Hero III, Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, Bioshock and Gears of War (limited edition) recently for Xbox 360 -- I know GoW is old but I never actually snapped up a copy!

What are your "must haves" this Christmas?

I am the Iron Man

Paramount Pictures has just launched a sweet site for the upcoming Iron Man movie at ironmanmovie.com

Iron Man, one of the original Avengers and who dates all the way back to his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39 in March 1963, tells the story of arms manufacturer and industrialist billionaire Tony Stark who develops a uber advanced robotic suit when captured in Vietnam (Middle East in the 2008 movie).

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the trailer, it looks great, both visually and plotwise. Iron Man + Robert Downney Jr. + Black Sabbath = sweet!

Lets hope Marvel and the studios don't screw it up like Daredevil, Elecktra, Ghost Rider and The Punisher.
