The Cell is the strongest CPU this gen, arguably stronger than the high-end PC CPUs.

Why do I need to read topics like these? |:

Xolver

To play the other side of the coin, that's not entirely accurate. High end CPU processors can perform some functions better than the Cell.

I PROMISE you, if you if you just spent $500-$1000 on an HD appliance, you just bought a Cell or Cell tech.bluebrad1974

Say that at AVS and you'll be laughed off the forum. HD video and devices existed before the first Cell was ever produced.

[QUOTE="bluebrad1974"]Actually, if the Cell isn't being used as the video imaging hardware for ANY blu-ray player or HD video entertainment appliance, you and every other cow and videophile in ths forum needs to explain why your spending $600-$1000 for your movie player? Do a little bit of looking, and you'll ask the same question that I just asked you. Keywords- Cellprocessor imaging blu-raybluebrad1974

1. I'm not a "cow". I have all three systems and depending on the game I'm playing any of them can be my favorite. Right now it's Trauma Center on the Wii.

2. Stand-alone Bluray players are not $600-$1000. Sony and Samsung players are $480 or so new and getting cheaper every day. HD-DVD players can be had for about $250 new. The intial high cost was due to the R&D of the HD formats themselves, like all new technologies. Same with DVD and VHS.

3. I don't have to google anything. I know for a fact the Toshiba line of HD-DVD players use NEC's EMMA LSI chips for all video processing. Stand-alone Bluray drives use an onboard Sigma SMP8630 controller for video imaging (I'm not sure what Denon will be using but it will be similiar I imagine).

It's really a shame that they don't use the Cell (according to your post anyway, and especilly for the price), because theCell is the best video imaging decoder in the mix right now. I'm thinking that the devices you posted are Cell tech, because the Cell is bleeding edge in video imaging.

No, it is not Cell tech at all. Sigma is not related to any of the Cell developers and is a simple SoS chip. Here's your official link from the company. Now shut up.

Until you have a pic or diagram your post is nil on the fact meter.

You are beyond help. It's painfully obvious your only intent is to troll.

well killzone 2, and MGS4 look better than 360 games so..........................

mentzer

Killzone2 looks better than nothing (especially after seeing COD4 running at 60fps)but MGs4 does look great.

I can agree, but the odd thing about MGS4 was that they didn't show it running on a PS3. Yes, they said it was running on PS3 hardware, but were was the PS3? Don't trust Sony folks, atleast be a sceptic until the gaming media gets their review build.

Wow you really are pathetic.

If MGS 2 and 3 didn't teach you anything, nothing will.

You truly are the SW biggest joke these days.

No doubt. I almost fell over when I read that he believed ALL Bluray and HD-DVD players used the Cell processor for video imaging. Amazing.

[QUOTE="KageMonkey"][QUOTE="bluebrad1974"]Evidently, I'm more informed and less naivethan you seem to be. bluebrad1974

Don't make me laugh. YOU are more informed than I am? To anyone with a slightest clue about technology, everything you have posted is based on your regurgitation of skewed BS spewed from Microsoft's behind. You don't even understand the basic concepts of how a processor works. To people who actually knows their stuff, you come off as some sort of ignorant blue-collar worker trying to be a couch developer. Here is some advice for you: don't quit your day job and leave the technical stuff to people in the know.

lol alright "braintrust", I have a few things that I want you to publically deny.

  • There is no difference between 3D rendering and video image decoding.
  • The Cell processor does not act as the video imaging device for blu-ray.
  • The Cell processor does not take anywhere from 2/3 to 1/2 extra coding fo gaming applications.

Or could just plead the 5th and end your ego trip. I'll be waiting studdly.

Hopefully you realize, that a blue collar worker could break your arm in arm wrestling, after he beat you in a drinking match, after he bed your wife, after he spoke wisely to your kid, and then getup in the morning and do it all over again for the next 40 years.

You need to clarify. The Cell is not used as the video imaging device for all Bluray players and drives. Nor is it used in the Toshiba HD-DVD players as you claimed earlier.

[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"]New games > old games.Bullets4Brains

Ignroance = you

Some new games are better then some old games but that statement is garbage.

Not really, most retro games are unplayable trash by todays standards, not all but most. Take of the retro rose tinted glasses, it really wasn't that good.

I agree and I'm 30 years old and have been gaming since we got our Pong unit in 1979 and 2600 in 1981.

Guhh... More sports O_O

Last week was NCAA and All Pro. Now it's NASCAR, next week it's Strikers, then it's Madden...

Eponique

Nothing wrong with that. Glad to see most gamers are still hetero.
