Obviously its really cool that a real dark subject matter is at the heart of a video game and the art style is really nice. True, video games as art. But, I would liked if there was some sort of negative mechanic that took place when fire monster attacked you. Why? Honestly, I am not sure. I guess I just need some risk.
I am not a square hater. I just take issue with them blaming the hardware, as the reason they have had trouble putting out a decent game. I also would never want to wait a year to buy a system and then have to buy another one a year after that.
This is B.S. Right now you could give Square the PS13 and I doubt they would be able to make a good game. If you can't do it on the old hardware what makes them think they can do it with new hardware? It takes more then some pretty pixels to make a good game. I for one am glad I have been able to get most of my moneys worth with my current system rather having to buy a new system two years later but hey, It looks slightly better!
gaystation? I can't think of anything more gay then coming to an old preview for a ps3 game and then insulting someone else with the balls to admit they want it. Some people prefer PS3 some Xbox and others PC, old and young may prefer Wii heck I know someone who still plays SNES like its the only system around.... who cares?
Yes. Of course not all of them but the vast majority of people who are targeted by the military are often from under privilaged and uneducated back grounds. People who often do not have the option to go to a four year college. This is not a ground breaking statement, look up statistics of where the military targets new soldiers. Its not meant to insult the men and women of the military but its just a fact. Most of the people in the military are there because it was the best oppurtunity for them. I am tired of people champing ignorance and doing so in the "name of the soldiers". If you really supported these people perhaps you would care about trying to the country and not having the people who have the least be pushed into protecting the bounty of the more fortunate. But, no if anyone ever wants to examine these issues someone cries " you are disrespecting the troops" and everyone shuts up. The rich and powerful manipulate and use the weak and then use social and personal issues to distort the real issues and keep them submissive and under their control. Its why so many of the poor in this country vote for the people who want to help them less while showering the rich and powerful with even more wealth.
Of course, I am sure this will just be distorted and deflected. Instead of examining this hard truth and perhaps thinking about the tactics that are used to get new soldiers I am sure this will be turned around as being anti soldier. Just in the same the argument Tom made was distorted and deflected by the dev.
He had a very simple concern. Its not fair to advertise and promote a war game as authentic and realistic when the reality of war is not something you would want to play in a video game. Its fine that they make these games and its fine that people enjoy to play them but lets be real. This is a game and it in no way shape or form gives you an authentic war experience. If that was actually the goal of a game maker " to try and put someone in the shoes of service men and women" then they would need to make a very different game.
I came in here after reading the comments expecting to see Tom get owned but thats just not the case. He brings up valid points that the dev has no idea how to answer. Do I have a problem with his game? No. Do I think its an "authentic" work of art that gives the player even a glimpse of what its like to be at war? Hell, no and if they did not pretend it was it wouldn't be a problem. In response to Kylon, good for you. People use the "former soldier" line as if its a guarntee whatever they say will be prasied as fact and no one should argue with them. Well I am not a former soldier but I have spent the last few years around one who was actually blown up. He was litterally blown up and to pretend that by playing this game could give me an idea of what he went through is one of the most offensive ideas I have ever imagined. Just because one soldier does not have the mental capacity to understand what Tom is saying does not mean they speak for every other soldier.
You want to make games with health regeneration and focused around having fun? Great I have no problem with that unless you try to have it both ways and also pretend like this is some authentic work of art that captures what it feels like to be a soldier. Give me a break thats all that Tom is saying. The uneducated masses of gamespot think just because the dev would not let Tom speak or respond to anyone of his questions in an honesty and meaningful way means he won.
I would just like to express to Tom that some people out here appreciate what he is trying to say. This thread is one of the biggest gatherings of uneducated blow hards I have ever seen. Just because you were at some point a soldier does not mean you are the ultimate authority on this issue. I am sorry to say this but the military is often made up of those who are uneducated and are easy to manipulate. Its just a sad fact so I am sure we will see tons of soldiers come out and say they have no problem with the game. They don't want to be seen as a cry baby, again manipulation by those in control to keep their pawns in control. I guess I don't really have an ending to this because the more I type the more heated I am getting. Watch the video again. Listen to the arguments Tom brings up and then see if you think the dev responds to these questions with anything but deflection and B.S.
