$299 is an unrealistic price unless Sony is really serious in taking a bigger loss per unit sold. They also have to drop their prices in their Ps3 bundles if they do this which means it will be cutting into PS4 sales in the holidays. See PS2 undercutting PS3 sales in 2006.

This is Microsoft and Sony's dilemma: consumers will most likely buy the current PS3 and Xbox consoles during the holidays because it is cheaper, has great library of games(new and used) and developers are still releasing AAA games for it.

Also it is confirmed that PS4 is not backward compatible with PS3 games. Want to sell that PS3 to get money towards a PS4. Hold on, PS4 can't run my latest GOW, Bioshock, Ni no Kuni that I bought this year? Well, I'll keep the PS3 and wait till it has more games.

@leeko_link Yeah, it is pretty strange. I guess he's on Nintendo's payroll now.

They also have a long list of developers for the PSP and PS Vita. All I care about is the end products and if the end products are good games and worth buying to play on the console.

Well, they provided the majority of the technical specs of the console so providing a finalized version of the 'box' is not such a big issue. Sony provided a spec sheet and it will have a blue ray disk, hard drive, hdmi, usb 3.0, ethernet port blah blah blah...so I don't know why this matters.

The only thing I'm interested is if this console will be very LOUD after 30 minutes after playing a game. To me, I just hate obnoxious consoles sounding like a jet fighter taking off. The Xbox was like that until they allow HDD game installation and I have to mod my 3 year old PS3 with a fan controller switch after sounding like a vacuum cleaner.

@alenth I understand Sony's position but their competitor, the Nintendo DS and 3Ds has piracy issues too and the 3Ds is using a much cheaper non-propriety SD card. Sony has to listen to its customers and not to the 'men in ties' in their corporate office. Good post though.

@Megavideogamer Yeah. I agree. I think this might be a sign of clearing out inventory for the current model toward a new model of the PS Vita. Hopefully new model has built-in memory

So it is most likely that a price cut will follow for the other regions which is good news to people who are on the fence and wanted to buy one. It still doesn't solve the price issue of the memory cards which a lot of people are clamoring for! How about lowering the price as well for the 16 Gb mem card or bundle it with the system, Sony!

@darkesc Knowing Microsoft, they probably will do two bundled versions of their new onsole. The only problem is that Microsoft might go with the same route with what they did with the Xbox 360 bundles: basic system with kinect with no hard drive and a deluxe system that will be considerably expensive.

@oatesedus @sacatash I'm in Toronto and at the mercy of Rogers and Bell's price-gouging internet plans. Good thing you have better service there. But again, I think this is a rumour. Microsoft will literally kill their next-gen Xbox if this is true since there are better alternatives, including their Xbox 360, for people who are into gaming.

This is a rumour, plain and simple. However, this is really a bad PR for Microsoft and they have not even announced their console yet!

I hope this news is not true since Microsoft will be alienating all the people who depend on buying used games and people in countries who have crappy internet plans...like Canada.
