I can't say I disagree. Especially since I got somewhat bored w/ God Eater after maybe getting 2/3 through it (I know, more of a monster hunting game, but still same 3d action/hacknslash gameplay) b/c of the gameplay. But then other similar combat games like Nier Automata had me interested the entire time, and I don't really rememeber Nier Automata's combat evolving. But maybe I'm just misremembering. Both had good stories/narratives (tho Nier's was way better), so it wasn't that that got me uninterested.
Also, I did not know there were AI party mates and combos you could do w/ them. That's pretty neat, ty.
A really fun game. But as the review states, it does get dull quickly. And I'm not sure why. The gameplay is intense and enjoyable. Maybe b/c gameplay is pretty one-note, even tho each character and game mode is fairly unique. But...isn't that really any shooter? Maybe it's due to the close quarters of the map, each match feels same-ish, even tho the map and mode are different. I'm thinking it could possibly be just a combo of the over-shoulder 3P angle, mode/map combo syngeries (even if varied), and 3v3 leaves little room comebacks if a wash starts early (tho I HAVE seen it). Other little things like crossplay disabled by default and no multi-queues I think don't really help the experience.
But, agreed it probably should've been f2p at launch. b2p w/ a f2p model is just not good. And I saw PLENTY of comments in twitch chat mentioning the $30 price tag as a deterrent. W/ so many games out there, free or otherwise, you have to REALLY stick out to get ppl's time and money.
That being said, while the game is "dead" by mainstream standards, the queues are still pretty much instant, especially at peak hours. The crossplay helps that a lot. But you also do see some of the same players during longer sessions.
The question I still had that wasn't explicitly answered was what landed on the property Trieu bought in episode 4. I presumed, after episode 9, that it was Veidt. Lindelof confirmed that in an interview https://ew.com/tv/2019/12/15/watchmen-finale-interview/amp/?__twitter_impression=true
Also, maybe S2 will be a prequel to S1 and be all about how Dan got arrested?
