Common types of intellectual property include copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial design rights and trade secrets in some jurisdictions.
Why is these as such as Call of Duty franchise, people call an IP? Why? Call of Duty franchise is game. Not exactly how you think here. Individual titles like Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War are games, but they're still a part of the Call of Duty franchise. Call of Duty as a franchise is an intellectural property of Activision (they hold the trademark on the name 'Call of Duty'); meaning that no one else can make a game or any sort of merchandise with the name 'Call of Duty' without Activision's approval. Then why is that people on people Gamespot call new games "new IP" or yes. Is it legal/correct?
