And How do I unplug the HDD from the lap? I dont know much about laps but know about PCs. And I can't directly upgrade from XP to 7. Guys, first, the lap had a Vista on it and then my dad took it to their place and removed vista and installed XP SP3. He didnt format the HDD but now I can only boot and install the 7. I did like that on my PC. I could boot Ubuntu, XP etc. But can't boot 7. And also, will the flash frive booting really works?

@GTR12, I already did that and still I can't boot it from the DVD. Does formatting really help with the booting? I mean it is booting in other PCs so I'm sure the disk is not damaged.

Did you press the "any key" when booting, otherwise it just defaults to the 2nd/3rd boot device.

It never came in the screen. Just an underscore flashes for sometimes and it boots into Windows XP. Well, do I just copy the whole thing inside the disc into the flash drive?

[QUOTE="d-rtyboy"]I think you have to destroy the MBR/boot sector. Try formatting the drive with ubuntu. Obviously, this will wipe all information off your hard drive.GTR12

No, don't do that, go into the Acer BIOS and change the boot order, make CD/DVD first.

Hi friends,

I own an Acer Aspire Timeline 4810T with about 2GB ram and 250GB HDD powered by Intel Core 2 Solo @ 1.4GHZ. So, I bought a Windows 7 DVD (original) and I installed it on my PC by booting from it. In my lap, I have Windows XP SP3 installed and I wanted to install Windows 7. I tried booting the disc from the lap but the DVD wont read at the booting time and switch to Windows XP. I tried booting Ubuntu 10 DVD from the lap and it works but somehow I can't boot Windows 7 in my laptop. I tried booting it on another PC to test and it works just fine. The Windows 7 I own is ultimate. So, can you guys tell me a way to install Windows 7 in my laptop? I can't also directly upgrade from Windows XP to 7 because it shows some errors. So pleas help me to solve this problem.

So the GTX 470 should be much more in price compared to the HD 6870. But what about the 14,000INR GTX 470 in the lynx-india site given above. What's the difference between the other GTX 470s and itself? And also, can I get it for below 20k INR?

Hey wait a sec. Check this out:

Zotac NVIDIA Geforce GTX 470 ZT-40201-10P Price: Rs. 20,800/-
Palit NVIDIA Geforce GTX 470 Graphics Card Price: Rs. 20,000/-
Asus ENGTX470-2DI-1280MD5 1280MB DDR5 Price: Rs. 23,000/-
MSI Nvidia Geforce GTX 470 1280MB Price: Rs. 19,500/-

-Priceindia.in http://www.priceindia.in/computer/nvidia-geforce-gtx-470-price-india/

And also check this out:http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?ukey=search

These sites show that the Price is near to INR 20,000. HD 6870 costs about INR 15,000. And so is GTX 470 costlier than HD 6870?

Is this a good Graphic Card? ATI HD 3850 512MB DDR3 Currently i have ATI Radeon X1550 Series 256 MB DDR2Infuzija55

I guess it's not a bad card as it got better rankings. But still, you should go for HD 5000 series or HD 6000 series if you are really planning to buy a GPU. If you can give the price point, maybe I can show you some good models.:)

So you are telling me to go on with GTX 470? I checked the benchmarking and performance, temperature and power consumption rates of both cards. Finally I concluded that GTX 470 is a better card than HD 6870 but it is more power consuming. HD 6870 can consume less power but still it is a little bit costlier than GTX 470. So now, GTX 470 is my best optionI think which can be bought under INR 15,000. Are there any other cards faster than GTX 470 at the same price point?

Last time I went to India I had constant rolling blackouts. Do you have a backup battery power supply attached to your computer? Thats what I had to do because it was killing my hard drivesSPBoss

nope:). In which country are you living?
