it looks worse in motion because you can see the lod changing right in front of you.

perhaps im being picky and its just being more pronounced on my 40' 1080p because the pixels are being stretched but in the pictures its very noticable in far cry 2 there. like the shadows a few metres ahead are much worse then the ones closer up.

im playing crysis at a custom config ive made stealing bits a pieces of others. looks like very high but gives about the same framerate as high. ill post it if ya like :D.

I think the pictures speak for themselves. For some reason in these 3 games (perhaps more?) the shadows turn very low detail at a close distance. Because its not limited to one game the problem must be else where.

I'm using the lastest ati drivers 9.9 and tried going back to 9.8 but the problem still remains. Im finding it very distracting because you can see the shadow lod changing so sharply and any help would be appreciated. specs as follows

4890 1gb

e8400 stock

4gb ram

corsair hx520

[QUOTE="Lyphe2k"]Ehh, too many unfamiliar bands and songs. I'm glad they have QotSA on there again but I was never really into Make It Wit Chu much; Turnin' On the Screw would have been a better choice off Era Vulgaris. The only sell for me is Plug In Baby, by Muse. I'll go out of my way to try out that song.mexicangordo

I find that I little ironic :P

And this is the first time they have more underground/cult bands than any GH game. Thats really great imo.

if you're unfamiliar with queens of the stone age and muse....well.... hurry up and get familiar. Both would be in the top 5 bands of the past decade imo.

and i absolutely agree with you lyphe2k; turning on the screw would of been a much better choice, or misfit love; but there only putting up singles hence 3's and 7's being in guitar hero 3.

Hey if your PC is not a branded one i mean to say like from Dell, Compaq ,HP or any other brand dont worry abt it just take out your optical drive and give it to the pioneer service center they will fix it but if you have a branded one then you have to go to the retailer bcoz all the parts used in branded PC's will carry OEM warranty so you wont get it from ur own , by the way i also suggest an alternate that now a days all DVD Writer's are so cheap go for another one and give this one for replacement under warranty. shootingspy

well i bought all the parts separatley then paid the company (scorptec...Australian) to build it for me. so i have a year warranty with scorptec and you say i should still have one with pioneer?

so you think the retailer has changed the lens?

i was thinking perhaps something happened during the courier service because it was transported quite a distance. like a bump or something might have damaged something, i dont know anything about disk drives so i dunno.

im kinda not wanting to have to return parts again because ive had two separate graphics cards need returning to the place (admittedly both from what i now know to be a crappy brand; MSI. now playing happily with a HIS 4890). so if theres an alternative id like to hear it and use retuning it as a last resort

since my pc has been returned from the retailer i had build it to replace a faulty graphics card i have noticed grinding noises coming from disk drive the few times i use it (mostly game off steam). It happens mainly when the disk is first put in or during installations. the disk drive is a Pioneer DVR-216BK and is about 8 months old from when i origianlly bought it. i havnt noticed in scratches on the disks used.

so is there anything i can do on my end to 'fix' it? is it a common problem?should i just put up with it?

if anymore information is needed i will gladly go into further detail but i dont quite not what more there is to say.

i recently recieved a HIS 4890 turbo by way of store credit from a defunct 4870 and while the essentially free upgrade is welcome im finding the 4890 not running exactly as well is benchmarks and owners have said.

fallout 3 should apparently run easy max settings with 8x aa at 1920x1080 (my native res) and im struggling to hit 60fps with 2x. the same kind of fps i was getting with my old 4870 512mb.

team fortress 2 is the same with the game dropping down into the low 40's at points with just 2x aa when i should apparently be able to easy run it at max with 8x.

other games like crysis, coh and stalker getting similar results. while performance is by no means terrible it is barely at the level of a 4870 1gb, let alone a 4890.

im curious if anyone has had similar results and if there's something i can do about it.

rest of system as follows

4 gigs ram

e8400 stock

corsair hx520

i game on a 40' sony bravia btw so anti aliasing is fairly important due to the tvs size if anyones curious as to why i use it at such high res
