It seems like most if not all of the console ports to PC end up being lousy. I saw video of Lost Planet and it looked so awesome, then I played the PC demo and could immediately tell this was a console game. The controls, the shallowness of gameplay, the lack of graphical choices, .etc. And I just bought(unfortunately) Stranglehold, another game made for consoles that just got pooped out onto the PC with little regard for quality. I don't want console games, I want PC games. The only console games that I like are ones that were also developed with equal time, effort and energy on the PC versions, not just broken versions of PC ports.

Although, I badly want Gears of War because it seems the dev team actually put a lot of time and energy into the PC version and didn't just toss it out there to make a few dollars. The reviews for Gears PC have also been great so that builds my confidence even more. As for other console games, I'd like to play Mass Effect and Drake's Fortune, .etc, but the problem isn't that there's a lack of good PC games that require that console games be ported to the PC, it's that there's TOO MANY good PC games out there. People just don't have the time and $$$ to invest in all these great games. I've spent more money this year on PC games than in previous years combined. IF Drake's comes out on the PC, I may play it but it doesn't look like a mind-blowing gaming experience. Maybe from a console perspective, but not from the PC games I've been playing recently.

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I only use Oblivion as an example because it's the only game of its type that I've played that was also critically and financially successful. I'm sure that Gothic and Morrowind could be equally useful models. I just want a game that is as comprehensive in its design and scale as something like Oblivion and has graphics on par with Crysis, COD4 or any number of next-gen games. Only difference would be that the 'hero' could fly and/or have any number of superhuman abilities. It's just be fun. There's so few superhero games out there and it'd be nice to break up the glut and have one like this.

Play any Gothic game or Morrowind, if you can get past the graphics, you'll see what a great free-roam RPG should be like... But I get your idea and think it's a great one. I certainly would buy such a game. Just not superhero-Oblivion.artur79

I only use Oblivion as a model because of the interesting first person/third person perspective on such an immersive RPG experience. It was something I'd never seen before. There are a million FPS, but FPRPG? Not as many in the quality of Oblivion. Also, I mention Oblivion because of the fun factor. I played through the entire game almost a year ago, clocked in probably over 100 hours, recently upgraded my vid card to a 8800GT, re-installed Oblivion and have clocked in another 20-25 hours already. I just find it to be extremely fun. The possibilities of a superhero RPG in its vein would be endless.

I may be crazy, but is it too much to ask for that, someday, some publisher develop a game that's a single player, massive open world RPG a la Oblivion that is focused on a comic book-y world where you get to play as a fledgling superhero? I don't mean something like that piece of crap City of Heroes where the 'heroes' outnumber the citizens they're protecting by 4 to 1. I mean a game that would exist in a massive open world with hundreds of quests like Elder Scrolls 4, where you'd start off as a normal person and slowly attain superhuman abilities, face increasingly powerful enemies, gain allies, .etc. Anything to add some color to the same old "orcs, elves, swords, shields" games or the "military fights aliens/monsters/mutants/zombies" game.\

I haven't seen anything on the horizon like the game I described. Anyone else hear anything otherwise?

Yes, less orcs, more super-villains! Sounds like a great idea, although I would not copy Oblivion blindly, as the game lacked any reason to explore/loot after level 25. And a little more variety to your surroundings, not copy and paste textures in every cave you visit. And less forest.

So I just got the digial download of Stranglehold and after an incredibly long installation time(it must've taken several hours for setup process to complete), the game was finally installed. I try to play it and it crashes every single time. I download new Nvidia drivers and instead of crashing it locks up after trying to start a new game.

I decided to look at the minimum system requirements and was astounded. I have a 7600GT and the game claims to require a 7800GT minimum! I figured that since I've been playing Company of Heroes, the Bioshock demo and Rainbow Six: Vegas that my system would be able to handle anything Stranglehold could throw at me. Now that I know the minimum specs, is Stranglehold relegated to being unplayable until I upgrade my memory and GPU? Terrible. It's moments like these that I'm actually compelled to just get a damn 360.

After finishing the main quest, I was venturing around the Shivering Isles. Near the Madgod's boot on the lower part of the map, I found a place called 'Hall of Honor' that's guarded by two Dark Seducer Guards. They tell me that I'm not allowed in and it requires a key. Anyone know what's in there?
