I think it's more: Respawn says they will announce/show something on the launch day. Microsoft misinterpret, and start thinking it's something big. They try to hype it. Respawn doesn't know why Microsoft is trying to hype it, and tells them to calm down.
So? It's not like you spend your time killing bots. They are just their to fill the map out, and give some people things to do while roaming the map and hunting down the pilots. They aren't meant to be human player equivalents.
In regard to Civ and Total War, i don't finish those games either, and i think i know why: The start of both of these games, where you're small, and you are trying to carve out a place in the world, is extremely fun. In Civ, having to plan your expansions, or deciding who you need to fight and who you need to ally with, can be very cerebral, and quite immersive. The same goes for Total War, where you generally start as a nation that sucks, and you need to constantly struggle at your borders to make yourself better and give yourself a proper place in the world.
But, when both games start reaching the end point, both become more cleanup, rather than thoughtful. In Civ5, if you played well, you'll probably be on your way to a victory, and nothing could possibly stop you (The AI can't launch invasions, at all). In Total War, your nation will have snowballed so much, you can auto-resolve everything, and still end up winning, simply because you have so many troops, you can afford to lose some battles, and you'll still end up rolling your armies into their cities and taking them.
So, yeah, in short, the best part about those games is the beginning :P
I wouldn't ever say i have a 'backlog' of games. I have games i haven't finished, sure, but that tends to be for good reasons. If i buy a game, i'll play it until completion, or i'll play it until i go as far as i can tolerate. I have no intention of returning to games i haven't finished, since there was probably a good reason i didn't bother carrying on, and the other games i own are done.(Re-playability in games is overrated).
