of course the ps3 will win in the long run. it's simple economics. the japanese will never buy an american branded product, because their culture looks down upon such things. but then when you get to the US, we seem to encourage it... a good reason why our economy is collapsing.
i own both systems, love them both... but i find myself playing the 360 way more, because of halo and NG2. i would love to see microsoft prevail, but the deck is just too stacked against them for things that are out of their control.
we all said the same about the name "Xbox 360" a few years ago... but aside from the 360 degrees of entertainment, etc... the main reason they went with 360 was so that confused parents didn't see a Xbox 2 vs. PS3 on stores shelves during the holidays.
and Xbox 720, as rumor has it, is the internal pet name given to the console by the microsoft employees that are currently developing it.
i think that's an interesting debate, actually, which is better between DMC4 and NG2. it was an interesting debate with NGB and DMC3: SE.
DMC: i actually thought it had a great story, atmosphere, soundtrack, all that stuff. extreme replayability (i put 110 hours into it when i finally called it a day.) my biggest drawback though, was that it simply wasn't tough enough. an S-rank on DMD mode was disappointingly easy. not god of war easy, but easier than 3, or than i had hoped. the combat is just straight up, undeniably FUN, i could go through the bloody palace with nero all day and have a blast.
Ninja Gaiden: the simplest, oldest story in the book: bad guys steal relic to resurrect a great evil... somehow, it seems like i've seen this story in games about 900+ times. so no great story, none of that. soundtrack gets about a 6.5 out of 10 from me, so luckily i have custom soundtracks for further playthroughs. but the combat... wow, simply incredible how much deeper it is than anything out there, and it's as tough as i hoped it would be, i may end up playing this game for months.
so, coming from someone who loves both, has about 110 hours on DMC4, and 30 on NG2... i really can't decide which i like better so far.
ahhhh, behold the ignorance of the fanboy.
1) MGS4 and NG 2 are in no way similar or comparable games. i believe that soul calibur for dreamcast got a perfect 10 as well, so should be comparing that to MGS4? what about the legend of zelda ocarina of time? action games get scored A LOT tougher because there is just too much to them, when compared to a shooter of any kind, or any kind of less intense action game. DMC4 and NG2 both got 8.0's on gamespot... so? they are both great, great games.
2) yeah, behond the best action game of this generation. it is, so far at least, the best action game out there. this game was made for hte fans of the original, not for japanese fanboys. NG 2 is faster, tougher, bloodier and more intense than the original, and that's what all the fans wanted.
3) NG2 has it's flaws. i can overlook them, because it's a truly great game, but the detractors will always pile on to them. no, it's definitely not as polished as NG or NGB... well, when you release a game in 2 years, and are having massive problems with your employer (see: itagaki sueing tecmo) you're going to have a less polished game than a game that you spent 5 years making, under presumably better circumstances. if the slowdown on the part where you fight about 100 enemies on a set of stairs late in the game, or dealing with a sick amount of projectiles flieing at you at all times on higher difficulties ruins the game for you, then i'm sorry to hear that, and have fun with mgs4, which i'm sure is an amazing game for fans of the series. me? i'm going to enjoy putting a couple hundred hours into becoming a master ninja, because NG2 is everything i hoped it would be, besides the rare framerate and/or optimization problem.
as much as i would love to dream that it's diablo related... it so far seems to be the least possible at this point. warcraft IV is a distant second hope for me, and that i think it entirely possible from what we've seen so far.
if they are just teasing wrath of the lich king, then i'm officially done with blizzard, forever. why tease a game that is already announced, when they have two franchises that millions are dieing to see continue (real warcraft, and diablo)
it's not that there are things that consoles can do that pcs can't. yes, we all realize soon after a generation of consoles is released, pcs will outclass them.
but there are several reasons the majority of people choose console gaming over pc gaming, even though just about everyone has a pc:
1) if i went and bought a 360 in november of '05, or a ps3 in november of '06, i am confident that i'll be playing high quality, top of the line, completely optomized games on it for 4, 5 years. with a pc, to play the games like crysis, you'll basically need to spend as much to upgrade your graphics card yearly as you would to just buy the console in the first place.
2) sort of piggybacking on my last point, cost. i can afford to spend a thousand or so a year on a gaming pc... but do you really think the majority of gamers can? probably not. a few spoiled kids can, and a few adults choose to, but the majority of gamers are not "hardcore" enough to spend a lot of money constantly upgrading a pc.
3) knowledge. most people don't know that they can do the physical upgrading of a pc by themselves.
4) pc just doesn't have the all time great exclusives it used to. when i was a kid, i saved up my money to buy a pc strictly for these games: diablo, command and conquer, warcraft 2. and i was damn glad i did it. now, most of these games would be coming to consoles, and the big time mainstream exclusives just don't seem to be there for the pc. i know, i know, starcraft 2, but that may very well come to consoles.
for some reason ninja gaiden 2 is getting bad press... but when you read the reviews, everything they hold against 2 was something that was in black, but no one seemed to mind. i think the camera is a little better, but 2 is just a lot faster and you fight more enemies at once, so things get pretty hectic, and a lot of attacks will end up coming from off screen.
i put about 200 hours combined on ninja gaiden and on black... and in my opninion, they took everything i loved about those, and just turned it up a notch. more intense fighting, faster, bloodier, tougher... ninja gaiden 2 is what every sequel should be. not some radical departure and tons of new ideas that ruin the original formula, just more of what everyone who loved the original wants to see. this is a sequel that is truely made for the fans.
