"Well uh, 15 years in programing and gaming design, in fact you may have heard of this game there. I worked on it as a game director and it won several awards.
*Corporate: Good to know, now lets hear what our colored friend here have to say.
*Corporate: Hey there Mister... Mister, right?!?
"Hello"
*Corporate: So what can you tell me about yourself.
"Well, first of all im glad im getting the chance to....
*Corporate: Say no more, you're hired.
3 years later...
"Uh, Boss, im noticing that all i do around here is appearing in front of the camera, and sit in a big room with a big desk, giving interviews about how "good" im having it here. Im really interested in eventually getting to do something unique, something that is more than just a boring representation. I signed in because i have a dream, and i want to make great characters and games that are more than just a "Label" for being gay or a person of color.
*Corporate: You are what we need, and you are excellent in what you do, now... just wave and smile for the Media, we got loot boxes to sell and community to prey upon.
Gaming has far bigger problems than diversity, and while the lack of diversity might be one of them, we all know what "representation" truly means.
@videogameninja: Progress is accepting that there are different people, and we have to include them into games and movies etc. Problem is, that their only personality is "He's Gay, She's a Slut" and you better be reminded.
These are in most cases like labels, its not about a good character, its a checkbox. And the medias are very good in nitpicking few bad comments to make a controversy.
The idea of progress is good, the execution is flawed. And honestly, i dont think they care.
In any case, im sad to say it, but it's an American thing, in their way for "justice" they will bury themselves. No matter how much awards a Woke game gets, it wont rewrite human nature.
To put it simply, why make a good character when you can make an one dimensional one?
Your example with Lara is great. Ill go with Zevran and Dorian from Dragon age. Why do they work? Because they aren't one dimensional checkboxes in the name of some twisted version of equality and broken stereotypes.
