I don't want to put a desk in front of my sofa to use speakers so I prefer my Sennheiser HD555. I've been fairly impressed with them as they cost 1/5 the price of my stereo speaker pair. Soundstage and bass is really lacking, but I can deal with it.

Not bad but too slow of response time for my tastes, as well as it is only 23 inches, I want 24-25 inches.
If 5ms response time is too high, you will want to go with a 2D @ 120hz monitor. But those are all around 23".
120Hz is not that big of a deal. The average TN monitor should have below 10ms of input lag and 5ms GTG response time, which is good enough for most. Plus he's on a budget so I doubt he wants to pay so much premium for 120Hz or IPS. You will also need to render above 60 frames to get any benefit from the increased refresh rate. 120Hz IPS with 0ms input lag would be pretty good though - but that's not what he's looking for.
Yes that's all you have to do. You can also move your user folders over to the hard drive to save space.

Avoid the RCA plasma like the plague. As for burn-in.. some games can leave image retention for up to a few weeks (Demon Souls, for example). Uneven phosphor wearing (watching letterboxed content) will cause burn-in.

1080p or bust

Makes no sense for console games. 1080p will look worse or negligibly worse for 95+% of games
next gen games will have better resoultion . this gen has like 2 years left in it 3 at most .
2-3 years is a long time to wait - some of the best selling titles for the PS3 and Xbox 360 aren't even HD.
No, the surround sound headset is just a stereo headset with Dolby Headphone digital processing to simulate 7.1
The drum "looks" fine, however it is rather dirty. After a good cleaning check the results, replace only if required. If parts are required compare total cost of repairs with no warranty and a new machine WITH warranty. Pouring more than half the replacement cost into a repairis usually not a good idea.

Thanks for the help - I'll try and clean the printer then. Is a toner vacuum necessary? Will I be able to do a thorough enough job with isoprohyl alchol, brush, toner cloth, and cotton swabs?
Just go with the Vizio then. In general, they don't have the best picture and build quality but they are OK. Sony is pretty good at the lower price range, specifcally the EX401.
