@red_city There's a reason Inafune didn't do as you suggest - he retains total creative control of the project, which is a good thing. Also, you do get something for funding his game: the game itself, plus more if you gave more. Works for him, works for the fans. What's not to like?
Unless Square Enix is doing this for free, and not meddling with the development (not sure about those "terms and conditions"), this just seems like a way for a AAA company to get their paws on a piece of the crowdfunding market.
Phones and tablets have not come close to rivaling a dedicated handheld gaming experience yet. Maybe down the road, but for now it's not even a question.
