last trip up wal-mart i heard the clerk tell a guy shopping for a hdtv that vizio has the highest return rate of any brand sold at walmart.i would add to that number and take it back if i were you.thanks for the input everyone. i ended up spending a little overbudget and went with a 42'' vizio lcd.
i did have a few more questions since you ahve all been so helpful. the display when playing my xbox is amazing now, but my television (both regular and HD channels) look terrible. i am still connected on basic cable line (the kind that screws in, like with old school TV's). would this account for my low picture quality?

to bad you cant save up 500 more bucks.. you could get the tv i just got last spring. i have not had one single problem with it. even stanard cable looks good. which is rare with most hdtvs.hello everyone. i'm looking to buy a HDTV this week, and was wonering what would get me the most bang for my buck for around 600 bucks. it's primary purpose will be for playing my 360 and i haven't really found any solid info on whether LCD or plasma would be the best for gaming, or if there really is a big difference at all. i do have a 360 with an hdmi port if that makes any difference (i've heard there are 360's without one)
from the browsing i've done in stores, the screen on plasma's seems to be very susceptible to glare. i have MANY windows where i game, and nothing drives me more crazy than seeing their glare on my screen when im watching a movie or gaming.
i work at walmart, so have access to a 10% discount, so will most definitey be purchasing my television there.
any advice from someone with some knowledge on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

only bad thing ive ever seen with plazmas is glare.
not sure if u can get cheaper but if i had to pick a plazma right now i would buy the 50`1080p panasonic with anti-reflective filter for $1889 or the 46` for $1599

Thanks. I've decided I am getting one for my Wii. Can't wait to see the improvement.Jake_02if u dont plan on getting a ps3 or 360 in the future. i wouldnt bother getting a hdtv yet... also u need special cable to get the lowest output hdtv has to offer which is 480p. i think your gonna be upset after you buy a 500 hdtv plus the 35 dollar cable for your wii. the wii is not a hd system so buying a hdtv just for your wii is kinda crazy.
Most Tvs have 5 pins, you should go with a composite cable just to get slightly better picture. And yes, the pic will change because the wii runs in 480p were as the ps3 and xbox 360 run in 1080i, 720p and 1080p.don464i might get one for my wii. because when i set my ps3 to only 1080p. most games go to 480p and the games dont look that bad in 480p as they did before i got my hdmi cable. but im guessing the wii will never look as good as ps3 games though. so it might not be worth the cost of the composite cables.
i got a magnavox 47` 1080p lcd its on sale now for $1,158. this tv is great for my ps3. warhawk looks alot better in 1080p you`ll notice so much more...

i would get a panasonic 50` 1080p plasma for $1899 . if u want even cheaper u can get a 47` 1080p magnavox for 1100. i got one of those last year it looks as good as my friends 46` bravia that he paid 2499 for.
i wouldnt worry about super name brand tvs like sony or samsung because you will pay top dollar then a few months later they will release a newer better model for about the same price you just paid. so ur better off getting a good cheap hdtv until prices calm down.and the peeing contest is over between them.
