@beantownsean: i was not even thinking 4 year then they said 2018 because they signed papers with AMD to make the next round.....but now we find out it this little of a upgrade....then on top of it we have the question of sony willingness to push the life cycle longer then it should because of this upgrade.....
@sandisk998: yeah some of the slim systems did run games better.....PS2 was a big one and had lawsuits about games not running on first gen version of the system......by the time slim units hit cheap chips running way faster speeds and cooler temps are out hints the reason they are able to make any of the slim units......i also have to point out the fact socom 1 run on first gen PS2....socom 2 would NOT run on first gen PS2 because of the upgrade in hardware done to the 3rd gen of PS2(yeah 8 version to the guts of the old fat PS2 if any of you did not know with i think 3 or 4 over all CPU changes) then add all the stuff done to the slim version because their was 2 or 3 version of it.......version of the slim almost always run higher frame rates and games known to have slow down on the old systems no longer slowed down on the slim even in 360 games......more pixel count no but better frame rates or more better worded would be stable frames has almost always been the case with slim version of any console.....but game makers have always been locked to making games around hat first gen can do so later gens will run it better and they wont get sued like sony did
@jarobusa: tech should not stop but their should have been a upgrade route with current hardware like what sega did or like even nintendo did with the N64 if they were going to pull something mid console life like this.......you cant really tell me they have only been working on the VR part after the current console came out......you cant also tell me 4k is something new when it was talked about back in 2007......at least their saying all games will work on the old consoles.....so many people were but hurt to find out a game would not run on N64 without the memory upgrade.....and truth be told they could have given upgrade options.....the CPU still has unused PCI-E lanes....adding a port to take a extra GPU could have given them crossfire.....doing this you could have done things like double the total memory to 16gb maybe even giving the GPU's 8gb to use leaving the 8gb on board for the system or adding HBM memory on the add in GPU and making the on board GPU run other functions or calculations in room spacing and movement....this would have done a lot more for VR performance then current improvements.....ether way it sucks they are asking for more money on a system that is not really that much of a upgrade.....
@jokeyjoey2014: yeah it only took better hardware to do it......shame sony cant say we screwed up with cheap hardware......now you will upgrade and be happy about paying more for something that should have been in the system since day one......
@StonerDemon: so game boy color was just a upgrade in color even when the old game boys would not run the new games???.....wiiu was a new system.....as least nintendo had the balls to try instead of upgrading a turd.....
@taker254isback: wrong....all broadcasts in the US are 1080 at 30 frames with most of being 1080i.....720p is in there but so is 1080i.....nothing over the air is better then 1080i......
@jarobusa: "doubling of CU units" yeah its still not going to run any game in native 4 why waste the time and money??? VR will see a big boast from this but for the rest of it its not really needed.....
@Darkangel2154: yeah i dont know of any place still sending their stuff off to recycling centers.....to many places are willing to pick and buy them now.....i work in a place that has MANY 10k workstations.....we dont just get rid of them we sell them off or sell off parts......
