@Saketume @GunnyHath You wouldn't say that if you saw my pirate otter... it's a otter dressed as a pirate. that's right...an otter...dressed....as a pirate!! A flippin PIRATE!!
Jessywoo, light of my life, cream in my coffee, as this is the last one of these you're doing for a bit, does that mean you'll be making more effort in our relationship now? I'm tired of doing the dishes every night and really, do we have to see your parents EVERY weekend? The air travel bills are killing me!
@b_o_l_h_a @drwaldy the game costs £6.99 (about $9) and appears to offer entertainment, laughs and quick,silly fun. an '8' score seems perfectly acceptable to me.
Great interview! Fascinating to hear how they got Sensible off the ground and really nice to see that he hasn't left the industry all jaded and cynical. More of this type of thing please GS!!
@skOdgaard Absolutely. The used games market has been prevalent since 1979 when Atari 2600 games could be picked up cheaply months after release. This is simply about increasing profit margins and publisher greed.
@Bond_Villain Good point. The same applies to white goods too...this is less about profits and much, much more about greed.
The second-hand market probably does more good than harm to the games industry. Without it videogame stores would suffer in loss of revenue and end up folding and the new release market therefore would be indirectly affected too.
@hector530 Have to say that I disagree. X-Com sold millions of copies last year and yet doesn't possess graphics that make you sit up and take notice. Many of the biggest selling franchises of the last few years including Angry Birds and Minecraft don't rely on expensive production values.
The latest Tomb Raider was great fun and on occasion I did find myself looking at how fantastic the digital world looked but the reason I picked that game up wasn't the screenshots on the back of the box but the fact that it had already established positive reviews, word of mouth and the love of previous games in the series.
Graphics are always important when a new console hits the scene. We all want to get an idea of what's achievable before we shell out our money but what brings people back time and time again to a game is usually the gameplay, characters, perhaps an engaging storyline -rarely because it 'looks cool'.
